As Engineering Specialist-Perf/Sim/Appl you will serve both as a leader of projects and as an experienced contributor on projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to

The Machine Performance Analysis group is looking for an individual to drive efforts in the development of virtual Operator Models and to lead/collaborate with multiple Business Units in the application of existing machine simulation technology in NPI programs as well as work with tool developers to create new methods for expanding the usage of machine level simulation. You will have the responsibilities for planning & managing multiple programs and Pilot projects with product groups including Machine Simulation Workflow Automation to dramatically increase usage and efficiency of machine simulation in product development. You will continue leadership of the Machine Simulation's 0D/1D Simulation Lifecycle Management efforts, specifically defining and enabling a corporate vision for model sharing and version control.

You will be focused on the development & support of the Operator Models for a wide variety of Caterpillar machines and develop a Multi-Generation Product/Process Plan (MGPP) to drive it to the next level. Blending various aspects of Control Design and Machine Learning, you will develop methods to model the human operator as a controls system for use in a virtual testing environment. You will develop Standard Simulation Procedures (SSP) and Simulation Best Practices (SBP) to effectively and efficiently predict machine performance virtually with high confidence. You are essentially a technical leader with the ability to coordinate and support multiple projects with overlapping timelines. You will also set project priorities and allocate internal resources to ensure the completion of the simulation projects within budget and on time. Furthermore, you will be responsible to mentor, coach and develop team members, provide guidance to ensure timely and right conclusions with actionable recommendations and solutions. In addition, you will be trusted source for Operator Modeling and will work with product groups to automate their workflows through increased use of machine performance simulation within product group NPI.

Basic Qualifications

MS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related fields. A related Bachelors degree with extensive experience is also acceptable.

3-5 years of experience in machine performance analysis

3+ years of experience in the design of control systems

2+ years of demonstrated engineering leadership in consistently delivering projects and results

Top Candidates will also have

Excellent understanding of Dynasty (including advanced features & custom components), Rocks3D, Python and 3DTire

Good skills in Simulink/Stateflow

Experience w/ machine learning and reinforcement learning

Working knowledge of Git, SVN or other version control systems

Ability to identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements

Demonstrated excellence in collaboration and engagement with customers and work partners

Strategy development background

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong ability to communicate with multiple teams and drive desired outcomes
