Job Description

Scope of Position: Were seeking a qualified Biological Scientist with supervisory experience to join our development team. This exciting role involves providing guidance and encouragement to a team of highly qualified scientists and engineers that enables them to accomplish their goals and advance in their career as they participate in a range of multi-functional projects. This manager role includes providing technical expertise to improve current Life Science products, and the development of new industry-leading products for the Life Sciences. In this role, you will be dedicated, have phenomenal attention to detail and be inventive, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, impeccable interpersonal and organizational skills and a willingness to keep abreast of customer trends and industry advances. Your proven experience in communicating, coordinating and collaborating with people in other technical and non-technical disciplines is required for this role.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Leadership and execution of multiple, parallel development work-steams and multi-discipline technical teams with budget and resource responsibility

Mentor team members to establish trust and increase their capability to meet management objectives and career goals

Actively seek opportunities for team members to practice and advance their skill sets and provide evaluation of their performance

Listen to the needs of team members and request additional tools or resources to maintain a safe and comfortable workplace for employees

Regularly interact with team members and leadership to solve problems and answer questions Lead technical teams in advancement and improvement of new products and existing products.

Work with team members to determine protocols for use of new or improved products

Provide guidance for tests conducted to evaluate the efficiency of processes and reliability of products and contribute to reports written to communicate results

Provide insight into the latest scientific discoveries and technologies through research, customer communications and team participation. Monitor technical and competitive trends and suggest opportunities for partnerships.

Contribute to growth of the intellectual property portfolio

Perform activities to develop new products including collecting VoC, crafting, developing, integrating and implementing new and improved processes and technologies

Participate in diagnosing process issues and problem-solving to implement changes as required

Schedule and coordinate project activities to align with deadlines and budgets

Travel Requirements: We have minimum travel expectations for you not to exceed 10%.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week, 8am-4:30pm, flexibility can be discussed

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

Bachelors Degree in Biology or Biochemical /Science required

Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience

Minimum of 5 years experience in a new product development environment and demonstrated success in bringing new products to market

Required Skills:

Strong, caring leadership abilities that help guide and motivate team members to provide valuable results

Considerable familiarity with disposable life science products

Extensive knowledge of cell biology

Substantial understanding of cell and gene therapy manufacturing processes

Experience with common polymer materials such as PS, PP, PET

Knowledge of polymer biocompatibility and leachable/extractable considerations

Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills, methodical thinker, makes decisions and draws conclusions based on statistically relevant data

Ability to evaluate, prioritize, and select solutions that satisfy customer needs/problems while ensuring Corning profitability including consideration of manufacturability

Well organized with thorough documentation, laboratory notebook, and record keeping skills Innate curiosity, self-starter and independent

Desired Skills:

Capable of strategizing to create goals for their team and for themselves

Proficiency with disposable life science products

Experience with cell biology, cell culture, bioprocess and bioseparations

Experience with common polymer assembly techniques

Experience with polymer surface treatment/modification (through wet and/or dry chemistry) Experience with chemical and biochemical sensors

Experience participating on project teams in a stage gate process, following ISO 9001 or ISO13485, cGMP, Design Controls

Soft Skills
