This is a multi-level position that can be a Quality Assurance Engineer II or Sr Quality Engineer I based on the candidates qualification as they relate to the skills, experience, and education required for this position.
Operations Quality has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with the factory team through supporting production, first article inspections, maintaining inspection instructions, and preparation for audits. The position is based in Tucson, AZ. The quality engineer responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
* Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies
* Regularly generate and publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics
* Facilitate and lead cross-functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB)
* Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary
* Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management
* Development and maintenance of inspection instructions, ensuring inspection instructions meet the technical data package requirements and meet production needs
* Regularly interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA)
* Daily status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issue, and weekly meetings to help reduce cost of poor quality.
* Ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Interim Clearance Required: This position requires an interim secret security clearance before start.
Required Skills:
* Minimum of Two (2) years of experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline and experience in a relevant technical discipline with understanding of engineering principles and design analysis techniques
* Experience in supporting design and/or manufacturing process
* Manufacturing process experience (assembly, inspection, test)
* Experience with engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control
* Previous experience in a role requiring negotiation, influence of leadership, and working with factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders
* Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
Desired Skills:
* Minimum of Four (4) years of experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline
* Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management System
* Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Requirements
* Experience working in a dynamic environment that requires prioritization and flexibility to support competing requirements
* Experience in leading cross-functional teams in auditing process and product/process improvements in the factory or at suppliers
* Motivated and self-starting team player who achieves results and continuously strives for improvement
* Strong written and verbal communication and networking skills
* Six Sigma or ASQ Certification
* Level 5 Mission Assurance Certification (Internal Candidates)
* Data analysis; development and usage of actionable metrics
* Masters Degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or Business
* Existing DoD Secret Clearance
* High computer proficiency, including skills working with Microsoft Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word Visio)
