Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) is searching for an experienced Optical Coatings Engineer to become a Principal Optical Coatings Engineer, supporting the design and manufacture of state-of-the art Infrared Systems. This position is located in Goleta, CA.

The Thin Films department at RVS creates coatings to support challenging Electro-Optical applications in the Space, Tactical, Airborne and Emerging markets. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with all aspects of Optical Coating technology, including designs, models, materials, and processes. The Principal Optical Coatings Engineer will work with a staff of energetic engineers and skilled technicians, as well as develop strategies for advanced coating technologies, taking advantage of the in-house capabilities of 10+ vacuum coating systems. The candidate will work with Infrared Systems Engineers to determine strategies for incorporating coated windows, lenses, filters and detector antireflective coatings into Integrated Dewar Camera Assemblies and other optical systems. The responsibilities of this position include:

* Writing and reviewing specifications for optical coatings, including spectral performance requirements, environmental and chemical exposure requirements, durability and surface quality requirements
* Modeling and designing coatings for manufacture in-house
* Performing trade studies for optimization of optical coatings strategy
* Advising Design/Systems Engineering on capabilities, both internal and external with an emphasis on Design to Cost and Design for Manufacturing
* Recommending test protocols and seeking Quality approval in the characterization of flight grade hardware
* Contributing to a Technology Roadmap for the Thin Films Department and advising management on strategies for Capital procurements and technology development investments
* Advising Supply Chain on requirements for qualifying suppliers of optically coated components
* Provide technical mentorship to Engineering staff

The candidate should have excellent technical proficiency in the design and manufacture of Optical Coatings, as well as proficiency and comfort in interfacing with multiple functions including Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Quality, Mechanical Design Engineering, Factory Management, Equipment Engineering and Process Engineering

Required Skills:

* 8+ years experience as an Optical Coatings or Thin Films engineer
* Experience in designing Optical Coatings using optical coating modeling software
* Direct experience with vacuum coating technology used in Optical Coatings
* Familiarity with metrology equipment and characterization of Optical Coatings and/or optical components
* Ability to understand and develop Engineer specifications, drawings and requirements
* Ability to understanding chemical safety data and ability to follow safety protocols including the use of Personal Protective Equipment
* Proficient in (Excel, Word, PowerPoint as well as the ability to learn and use engineering and manufacturing software)
* Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing coverall garments
* U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position requires the ability to obtain a US Government Secret clearance within one year of start date

Desired Skills:

* Demonstrated leadership experience
* Direct experience with e-beam evaporation or ion beam sputtering technology
* Experience in Infrared Optical Coatings and materials
* Experience with Optical Monitoring systems and software
* Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE/ANOVA)
* Equipment and controls systems experience
* Visual Basic, C+, Python, Matlab or other computer programming experience
* Program and Project management experience
* Experience with Infrared Detector or Systems Technology
* Active DoD Secret clearance

Required Education:

* A Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 8+ years of prior relevant experience required, or 6+ years with a Masters Degree, or a PhD Degree and 4+ years of experience

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
