Job Description:
The Directed Energy Chief Engineer will be responsible for the technical execution of Raytheon's high power microwave and particle beam portfolio. The Chief Engineer will oversee the research and development, capture, manufacturing, and production planning of very high technology high power systems with technologies including pulsed power, particle beams, plasma technologies, traveling wave tubes, RF antennas, and RF subsystems on classified and non-classified programs. The Chief Engineer will lead teams of engineers and PhD scientists to translate physics-based theories into engineering prototypes, often developing new theories about how pulsed power and microwave devices can operate. The Chief Engineer will lead teams to develop complete system solutions based on those prototypes.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the technical development of Directed Energy (high power microwave, pulsed power, and particle beam)
* Provide senior technical oversight and guidance to Engineering personnel, ensuring technical rigor, that balances Raytheon priorities along with specific program technical, cost and schedule requirements, including product performance, and manufacturability and affordability objectives
* Ensure the technical integrity of program work products, including the Technical Data Package, integration, testing, verification and validation
* Work collaboratively with the RMD Engineering Organization, with RMD, and with the RMD Office of Chief Engineer
* Chairing or designating a chair for all program engineering review boards, including risk reviews, failure reviews, readiness reviews, and Configuration Control Boards
* Drive and support improvement to eliminate design or production flaws that inhibit progress
* Support proposals and IRAD focus areas and serve as technical expert with senior capability
* Influence senior Engineering and Program Office to accept new technologies, practices, and approaches
* Serve as the key technical interface with the customer for all Directed Energy programs
* Be the top resource used in helping customers to understand what Raytheon can provide in terms of Directed Energy solutions for the warfighter
* Implement strategic goals established by RMD
Required Skills & Education:
* A Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
* Minimum of 10 years experience with directed energy
* Technical Experience with directed energy technology
* Experience developing and fielding systems in the defense market
* Experience with Research and Development programs transitioning to military systems
* Experience in systems design and integration
* Experience in defense project planning, proposal and program management
* Experience with system simulation and system requirements
* Experience with integration and test, verification and validation
Desired Skills:
* Masters or PhD in Physics or other scientific or engineering discipline preferred
* Experience in the international defense environment
* Familiarity with the military strategic planning methodologies and the associated organizations
* Knowledge and experience with USAF, US Army and/or US Navy Research and Development processes
* Extensive technical expertise with multiple scientific and engineering disciplines
* Capability of working without appreciable direction
* Ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts to resolve on complex technical problems and facilitate innovative solutions
