Provide quality assurance inspection and analysis support for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security's Armored Vehicle (AV) Program at the U.S. Department of State to measure contractor's performance, schedules, controls, and industrial processes. Shall possess experience in the knowledge of welding techniques and material quality as it relates to installation of armoring systems in OE vehicles. Shall possess the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage expertise of stand-alone welded components, as well as knowledge of an overall integrated automotive systems to properly execute quality assurance inspections. Work closely and professionally with customers, and communicate issues to leadership as necessary.
Responsibilities
* Perform visual inspections on welded vehicles, reviewing joints for hidden cracks and pits.
* Review welding machine setup and the welding techniques of welders on work in progress to ensure the quality of the work is maintained.
* Evaluate welding processes, procedural instructions, evaluations, inspection processes, etc.
* Maintain oversight of the Program's welding practices to ensure conformity to the Department weld inspection programs.
* Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues related to the welding process identified during inspections and in testing.
* Review and inspect re-installed components and systems to identify any defects as a result of poor techniques and/or material.
* Monitor operations to ensure that they meet production standards.
* Inspect, test, or measure components and subsystems being manufactured.
* Provide detailed inspection results by notating unsatisfactory work and non-conformances.
Qualifications/Requirements
* AWS Welding Certification + 4 years automotive experience OR
* Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) OR Senior Welding Inspector (SCWI) Preferred
* Problem-solving skills with an electrical aptitude
* Automotive Tech School degree or equivalent preferred
* Ability to review and understand contract technical specifications.
* Strong oral communication skills to facilitate the discussion of contractual specifications.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Advanced problem-solving skills to resolve discrepancies.
* Strong organizational skills in order to plan each phase of an inspection and ability to meet deadlines.
* Shall be proficient in the use of the Microsoft suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project as well as with Adobe Acrobat.
* Travel required up to 75 percent annually.
* Frequently stands, bends, stoops, crawls and works in tight spaces.
* Must be able to maintain SECRET clearance
