Position Purpose:

Assists Pharmacist(s) in providing high quality pharmaceutical services that foster safety and cost effectiveness of drug use through innovation, teamwork, and operational excellence.

The provision and scope of services

Under the direct supervision of a Florida licensed pharmacist, assists in the delivery of high quality pharmaceutical care. Strives to meet goals of pharmacy, hospital and medicine through teamwork and innovation in the pursuit of operational excellence.

Procurement/storage/distribution

Assist pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical service that complies with all federal and state laws governing pharmacy in the State of Florida and provide for the accurate and prompt charging of all medication at NOMC.

Prepare/dispense

The accurate and prompt preparation of intravenous admixtures under the direct supervision of a Florida licensed pharmacist. Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to aid in the prompt and accurate dispensing of medications at NOMC.

Administer

Performs all quality control activities assigned to technicians to help assure the proper administration of medications at NOMC

Monitor the effects

Monitors medication administration records for inappropriate doses, documentation errors and omissions.

Planning

In conjunction with other pharmacy staff helps develop and implement medication policies and procedures that contribute to the pharmacy mission. Works with other hospital departments to accomplish established goals through teamwork and innovation. Attends required hospital meetings.

Providing competent staff

Participates in the initial assessment and has completed training plan to ensure that they possess the necessary experience, education, and abilities to perform competently.

Assessing, maintaining and improving staff competence

Annually evaluates their continuing abilities to perform and carryout the expectations of the pharmacy.

Promoting Self-development and learning

With the support of the leaders of the organization, create a culture which fosters staff-development and continued learning.

Monitoring the Pharmacy Policies and Procedures Manual

Monitor compliance of all aspects of the organizations medication administration and pharmacy policies and procedures.

Participates in medication administration to address drug expense

Participates in the pharmacy intervention program by informing pharmacist of problems with discontinued medications or intravenous medication that are not on schedule to improve drug utilization.

Providing training development and continuous improvement

Serve as an example of the organizations training program, identify educational needs to enhance the performance capability, growth and development of certified technicians.
