As a Scientific Associate Director, Biocatalysis, in the Chemical Process Development Technologies Group, you will be responsible to build, drive, and lead biocatalysis efforts in the design and implementation of safe, efficient, and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates. Candidates will have a strong innovation focused mindset with experience in applying and developing novel applications of biocatalysts in a team based environment of chemists, chemical engineers, and analytical chemists.

Critical to these activities will be the requirement to manage external partners for biocatalyst evolution and development as well as guide internal development resources, gathering fundamental process knowledge about enzyme catalyzed reactions, address scale up challenges, and transitioning such processes to manufacturing.

Qualifications/Requirements:

The qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 7 to 10 years of additional related research/process experience in biocatalysis.

Candidates must possess a strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, possess excellent problem solving skills, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms. Of equal importance is deep expertise in the application of biocatalytic transforms for chemical process development, the principles that govern them, as well as knowledge about the external landscape and emerging biocatalytic technologies is desired. Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to work in a collaborative team environment with a diverse group of stakeholders across disciplines, both internal and external, is required. Also, a record of achievements in biocatalytic process development and a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks through rigorous data collection and applying analytical tests and instrumentation in the laboratory. Must have expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds (i.e. HPLC, NMR, MS, and IR).
