Job Description
The Solutions Architect is responsible and accountable for the quality and cohesion of solution architecture components within an assigned domain and their conformance to approved GM IT standards and alignment with the future state enterprise and domain architectural goals. This includes both hands-on development of IT technology solution architectures as well as management of various architectural initiatives.
A Solutions Architect is able to look across the assigned domain to ensure consistent alignment of technical solutions with the business goals and objectives of the supported unit. The architect provides industry leading technical direction and mentorship to various project teams to ensure appropriate and cost effective application of GM approved technologies. Ensures appropriate and effective data integration across multiple applications.
Job Description
* Guide and enables consistency in infrastructure, data security, scalability, and other non-functional requirements
* Develop and effectively communicate system level diagrams (context, logical, physical, deployment)
* Define, design and deliver cloud architecture for enterprise applications hosted or built natively on the cloud and integrate with legacy/on-premises systems.
* Collaborate with the application, data, and infrastructure architects on defining, designing and delivering cloud specific technical architectures and design patterns
* Create the conceptual, logical and physical design for cloud-based solutions for infrastructure and platforms
* Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement
* Provide industry leading technical direction and guidance to various project teams to ensure appropriate and cost-effective application of GM approved technologies.
* Introduce and accelerate adoption of new technologies and methodologies to support technology transformation initiatives
* Ensure appropriate and effective data integration across multiple applications.
Additional Job Description
Requirements:
* Bachelors degree (Computer Science or Engineering)
* At least 7 years of experience in information technology developing and architecting highly available, complex, distributed, component-based, service-oriented, event-driven architecture solutions for an enterprise
* Experienced in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting medium to large-scale distributed systems in cloud, non-cloud as well as hybrid environments
* Experience with high availability technologies that include virtualization, cloud computing, load balancing, clustering, massively horizontally scalable architectures, hosted services, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures, storage systems and content delivery networks.
* Experience architecting customer facing web applications
* Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills and a sense of ownership and drive. Ability to identify and drive to resolution issues and risks.
* Expected to have a strong working knowledge of general architectural patterns, technologies and architecture management processes.
* Experience with failure mode and effects analysis
* Experience with security architectures and designs
