AIGs Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs department is comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. The team ensures an operating environment that minimizes legal, regulatory, and reputational risks and complies with all laws and regulations and AIG policies & procedures. In this challenging and dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to provide legal advice, counsel, and guidance to the Life Insurance business. This position reports directly to the Deputy General Counsel for the Life businesses of AIG Life &Retirement.

Here are the performance objectives for this position:

* This role will be responsible for the delivery of legal services to the Company at all levels of the organization, including:
* Providing legal advice and guidance for the life insurance business line with a focus on product design & development, underwriting, marketing/sales, operations, and claims.
* Advise product development teams on legal status of contract forms, illustrations, commission structures and other compensation arrangements, and systems implementation matters.
* Review and provide legal support and guidance on advertising, training, and marketing materials, as well as provide support for advanced sales, as needed.
* Develop and maintain active relationships with business and functional partners to understand and adequately support the business in achieving its goals.
* Work collaboratively with peers across Legal, Compliance and other control functions as well as with all levels of staff to ensure philosophical consistencies of approach and practice across diverse business lines and legal entities.
* Maintain and grow in-depth knowledge of the business and its activities in order to ensure adequate legal oversight and resources as the business needs evolve over time; advise on emerging legal issues, including legislative and regulatory matters.
* Support customer, regulator and distributor facing units in resolving and remediating issues and disputes with respect to product, servicing, and market conduct; and
* Develop and maintain standard legal documentation file memos, briefing notes and position papers supporting the Business on any issues arising from the day-to-day activities of the company.

What you need to know:

* Minimum of 7 years of experience as a lawyer in the life insurance or related industry, in house and/or private practice, with a focus on life insurance including demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: product design and development; operations related to life insurance (claims, new business, policyholder services, and underwriting); and the marketing/sales of life insurance products;
* Self-starter initiative with the ability to meet and exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
* Ability to work on matters requiring expertise, attention to detail and execution.
* Proven problem-solving skills that demonstrate creativity and commitment to core values.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Proven ability to influence others with respect and integrity.
* Good business acumen.
* Demonstrated ability to balance thoughtful decision making with careful and timely execution.
* Excellent project management, organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills.
* Prior experience with a large multinational law firm and/or in-house legal department.
* B.A./B.S. and J.D. are required
* Admittance to at least one state bar.
