Job Overview: Staff IT Engineer to provide support to Corporate Research and Development Engineering teams
This individual will be responsible for developing tools to support engineering workflows and for managing and improving the IT infrastructure dedicated to Engineering. This individual will also drive efforts to modernize the infrastructure to support larger workloads across both private internal hardware and public cloud service provider resources.
Responsibilities include:
* Work both independently and as part of a team in the management of CPU and GPU based hardware, operating systems, networking, open source software stacks, storage systems, and job management systems
* Work closely with Engineering on their workflows, providing technical guidance on the most effective use of their IT resources.
* Oversee the upgrade and maintenance of existing hardware, and the specification, purchase, and provisioning of new hardware as needed
* Collaborate on the infrastructure platform direction and capabilities, and identify key new technologies that can help make the infrastructure more efficient and effective
* Work with global IT operations teams to provide effective IT support to the Engineering community. Identify issues, diagnose, communicate plans and resolve issues
* Perform monitoring and ensure system availability; create dashboards with both usage metrics and health of the system
A blended background in Engineering and IT provides the ideal platform for this position.
A solid background in system administration of both Linux and Windows environments is desired, along with broad and deep knowledge of compute, server, storage, and networking solutions. This position supports a highly technical engineering community and requires excellent communication skills, both at a very technical level as well as the ability to present to senior management.
Interrupt driven and sometimes urgent tasks are to be expected with this exciting role. You will establish collaborative partnerships with both IT and engineering teams, and balance standard Qualcomm IT solutions with dynamic engineering needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 4+ years IT-relevant work experience OR 7+ years IT-relevant work experience without a bachelors degree.
Preferred Qualifications
* 2+ years leadership role in projects/programs.
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or the equivalent
* 6+ years industry experience in software/hardware development, testing, DevOps or IT
* IT system administration for Linux (ubuntu/RHEL/SUSE) and Windows operating systems
* Direct experience with Container technologies & methodologies, particularly Docker
* Strong Python scripting and automation skills
* Hardware platform & architecture experience, including GPU
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Self starter
* Ability to lead large technical projects
* Good knowledge of configuring and maintaining a Load Sharing Facility (LSF) cluster
* Cloud (Google, AWS, Azure) experience
* Ability to work with limited supervision
Physical Requirements
Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to mile.
Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 20 lbs.
Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
