Scope of Position:
In this role, you will provide tooling support for molding projects in Corning Life Sciences. We look for you to apply Plastics Technology knowledge and expertise to achieve project objectives. You will drive the Contract Manufacturing Tooling Strategy and champion activities including mold repairs, refurbishments and replacements. You will lead technical assessments to match competencies and capabilities to product & process requirements. In the role, you will ensure Corning's Asset Life Cycle Management process is properly documented.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
* Provide tooling support to manufacturing sites on maintenance of molds, critical components and spares.
* Manage the quotation, vendor selection, design, fabrication and verification of new molds.
* Prepare Appropriation Requisitions (ARs) and manages cost/spend on mold replacements and capital expenditures for tooling and injection molding equipment.
* Approve mold repairs and manages tool drawings to ensure they are current and meet Division and plant standards.
* Facilitate tooling design reviews and participate in product design reviews when applicable.
* Actively contribute as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
* Collaborate with tooling vendors and process engineers in the debug and validation of new tooling.
* Serve as internal plastic tooling and molding expert with fundamental understanding of mold-making material properties and tooling fabrication techniques.
* Lead project teams in use of problem-solving methodology & tools to drive process/product improvements.
* Secure & protect proprietary information and IP.
* Compliance to all Plant & Division standard procedures and safety protocols.
Travel Requirements:
* Up to 25%, including International.
* Option for this person to work remotely from home office.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
* Standard business hours; Monday Friday.
Required Education:
* Bachelors degree in Engineering.
Required Years and Area of Experience:
* Minimum of 5+ years in an injection molding tooling engineering role.
Required Skills:
* Knowledge in Plastics Technology.
* Project management skills.
* Track record of delivering results.
Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
* Scientific injection molding knowledge.
* RJG Master Molder 1 training or equivalent.
* DMAIC/ Performance Excellence training.
* Mold repair experience.
* Mold design experience.
* CAD experience, preferably Solidworks.
* Injection Molding Tooling engineering experience working with injection molding process development and debug.
