Position Summary:
* This position is responsible for collecting semen and inseminating hens in chicken houses. Inspecting semen to determine quality and quantity for use as well as inspection of hens for evidence of production. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Prepare for insemination process by equipment set up such as: funnel/tip collection, bird platform, step stool, microscope/densimeter, etc. (10%)
* Retrieval and meticulous processing of males to collect semen and females to inseminate (50%)
* Replace males based on fertility numbers (10%)
* Inspection of females for evidence of production (10%)
* Utilize microscope/densimeter to determine semen quality; utilize visual to determine semen quantity (10%)
Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:
* These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: washing/disinfection vehicles; sanitize AI breakroom; trim beaks/vents; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare:
* The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing, and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
* Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Will occasionally lift and/or move, using two Team Members, up to 80 pounds to move items such as bird coops. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor) and walk up to 2 miles; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; wrist movement with pipettes up to 2000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include meticulous close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
* Tools and Equipment: Pipettor, Microscope, Densimeter, Pressure Washer
* Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, chemical gloves, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
* Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Clorox Wipes, Bleach, Lysol, etc.
* Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet and cold environments.
* Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
Qualified applicants must live within 50 miles of the facility and must have at least 12 months of work experience with one employer over the past 3 years with no gaps in employment of over 6 months. (Exceptions are made for layoffs, attending school, or the birth of a child)
