PPG Aerospace has an excellent career for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at our Sylmar, CA location! As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will oversee and direct manufacturing engineering personnel in safe, quality-minded and productive manner with a sense of urgency to attain production priorities as scheduled. You will manage the team in planning, execution, and continuous improvement support for the Sylmar Military Transparencies products. You will utilize lean and engineering tools to take a proactive approach to problem solving, focusing on developing strategies, boosting efficiency and productivity, and increasing profit margins. This may involve changing assembly line organization, making product design changes, or implementing upgrades to tooling or equipment.
You will drive employee engagement for the team through personal and career development, and continue to develop an organizational structure to drive success through talent attainment, retention, accountability and development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Identifies and analyzes problems, plans, tasks, and solutions.
* Manage a team of engineers who will support various aspects of the manufacturing process; process capability, process maturity, product cost, product efficiency, and scrap.
* Plan, allocate resources and directs activities to meet schedules, standards, and cost.
* Provide guidance on employee development, performance, and productivity issues; while cultivating and reinforcing appropriate group values, norms and behaviors.
* Manages the process of cross-functional generation and review of process FMEAs with the support of the Plant Area Process and Manufacturing Supervisors. Supervises the PFMEAs and ensures that they are routinely updated.
* Drive innovation and initiatives to enhance existing process and tools.
* Flow down of configuration management to manufacturing engineering team with collaboration from design and quality engineering.
* Support new program launches (NPI) in production line.
* Conduct performance evaluations of Engineering staff as specified by company goals.
* Review and approve PCO (BOO and BOM) within QAD.
* Control of production process changes, tools, and equipment.
* Meet and support division goals (PAP) and objectives.
* Development of Process Control Plans and Process Flow Charts.
* On time delivery and completion of all projects assigned.
* Implement Lean Manufacturing methods and efficient product flow, lead Continuous Improvement Team, and support and lead Ergonomic Team
Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science degree with at least 7 years of hands on experience in a production environment or production support role. Prior experience as a manager or lead is required.
* Administer Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to customer standards
* Development and deployment of intelligent automation is highly desirable.
* Understanding of lean-sigma tools, process certification, SPC, and standard work is essential. Prior experience and knowledge in phase gate development process for complex products is desirable.
* Experience with clean rooms, autoclaves, vacuum chambers, thin coating deposition (PVD or sputtering), CNC machining, and plastic ovens forming are highly desirable.
* Excellent communication skills with an ability to synthesize complex info into easy to digest form for upper management.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and detail oriented.
* Ability to thrive in a fast paced, challenging environment
* Complex problem solving and decision making with a proven record of results.
* Strong team development and leadership skills to enable the creation of a highly capable and sustainable organization.
* Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
