Overview:
The Commercial Database Engineering team is looking for a Manager to drive our customer experience strategy forward, by consistently innovating and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about the customer experience journey, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset.
Role
o Partners with internal customers across development verticals to support project completion, performing system and platform initiatives and providing technical advice to the project team
o Resolves chronic complex problems, providing managerial operational support to maintain systems and platforms
o Assists with process improvement efforts to identify and test opportunities for automation and/or reduction in time to deployment
o Performs financial analysis, planning, forecasting, and budget tracking to reduce total cost of ownership and allocate resources efficiently, ensuring appropriate technical solutions are employed for the specific application data needs
o Lead a diverse, multi-disciplinary global database team, conducts goal setting and performance appraisal processes, mentors and coaches new technical talent within the organization
o Be a problem solver and help to deliver timely complex initiatives and projects.
o Delegate. You need to ensure you are not a bottleneck and ensure your staff develop by giving them more complex tasks with defined outcomes and timelines.
o Be involved in Mastercard initiatives - supporting platform maturity, ideation, and automation
o 24x7 oncall duties may be required
All About You
o Experience leading large cross-functional initiatives, expected to provide project direction and technical expertise
o Extensive experience leading the day-to-day global technology domains and sub-domains, expected to partner with leaders in the technical community and derive new solutions and future business requirements
o Experience engaging with the broader technical community to anticipate developments in innovation, often evaluating new solutions and recommending future database system requirements
o Experience in database architecture or other relevant IT experience
o Proven ability identifying potential opportunities for automation optimization and/or reduction in time to deployment
As a Manager at Mastercard, your first and main priority will be to lead your team - direct and indirect members. Not only will you be ensuring their development, you will also be ensuring you are promoting a positive and vibrant culture within the team. Part of your role will be to remove roadblocks for them so they can deliver their best work.
Education (preferred):
o Bachelors Degree in Information systems or equivalent experience.
Knowledge/Experience (preferred):
o Demonstrates an understanding of Data Architectures role in supporting business processes.
o Demonstrates ability to participate in cross functional teams for estimating, application designs, and implementation strategies.
o Extensive Oracle experience required
o Prior management experience required
o Experience working in a large multi-national company / working in the technology or payments spaces
Skills/Abilities:
o Uses strong writing and verbal communication skills to build awareness and to proactively promote DBAs position in support of sound database structures, data governance and other Corporate strategies.
o Displays excellent collaborative skills with cross-functional teams.
o Provide positive customer service to internal business partners.
