SIGN ON BONUS AVAILABLE!! The Respiratory Therapist assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing disorders. Assumes primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures; maintains patient records; and selects, assembles, checks, and operates equipment. Position shift: 6p-6:30a; 36 hours per week, every other weekend and every other Holiday. May rotate to days-6a-6:30p on occasion.
* Current CPR Certification
* Registered Respiratory Therapist with NBRC and Pennsylvania state certificate of practice.
* Proof of completion of 20 CE Credits at each license renewal period.
Performs patient care procedures, testing, and assessment within the departmental standards and level of competence.
Collaborates with physicians and other care workers in providing accurate and timely test results.
Supports specified respiratory care and cardiology procedures provided by other hospital staff.
Provides emergency care, such as artificial respiration, external cardiac massage, or assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Reads prescription, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition.
Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, or blood chemistry changes, and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.
Set up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, or aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.
Enforces safety rules and ensure careful adherence to physicians' orders.
Explains treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
Relay blood analysis results to a physician.
Maintain charts that contain patients' pertinent identification and therapy information.
Work as part of a team of physicians, nurses, or other healthcare professionals to manage patient care by assisting with medical procedures or related duties.
Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary.
Always verifies patient care / services, and reviews chart.
To obtain and document accurate initial objective assessment and reassessment data according to departmental policies and procedures.
To set up, check, assess, document, and support oxygen therapy.
To provide and support aerosol therapy, observing, assessing & documenting care.
To administer, educate, & document respiratory medications.
To provide continual care for specified care procedures in defined areas, as set forth by the departmental scope of care.
To provide airway care, as needed.
To set up and maintain invasive and non-- invasive ventilatory support.
To set up and maintain pediatric and neonatal respiratory care such as : tents, hoods, ventilator care and transport.
To perform pulmonary testing, including arterial blood acquisition and analysis.
Performance of calibration, quality control, care, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on care and testing equipment and supplies.
To assist physicians in special care / diagnostic procedures.
Provides accurate and timely Oximetry testing.
To provides training and support for patients in pulmonary rehabilitation.
To obtain EKG and cardiac recordings, setting up & discontinuing holter monitors within guidelines.
Demonstrates the ability to access a situation and choose the appropriate course of action.
Monitor and document signs and symptoms of patient risk; correlation to appropriate intervention and notification of physician of unusual responses during care and testing.
Recognizes patient care / service situations or complications, documents interventions for solving the actual and / or potential problem.
Provides positive support for the nursing performance of respiratory care procedures.
To maintain lines of communication with care givers; communicate with physicians regarding care and test performance, reporting, and any other situations.
Participates in the identification and reinforcement of the patient, family, and/or significant other learning and educational needs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Obtains and transcribes pulmonary verbal orders, as needed.
