The Real Estate Risk Sr Grp Mgr manages multiple teams through other managers. In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function. A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication/negotiation may be necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy in area managed. Determines approach to implementing functional strategy. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy of the area(s). Impact reflects size of team managed, strategic influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility for multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval. May be doing involved or responsible for diverse (cross-discipline) activities. Typically, a direct report to a C16 role and function as an intergral member of the functional leadership team within a country/site location, job family, or line of business.
Responsibilities:
* Manages a team that oversees risks taken in connection with real estate activities which includes extension of credit that are secured by liens on or interests in real estate, direct and indirect private equity and public market real estate investments, capital markets, or an asset sale, or a refinancing is contemplated as a first or second way out.
* Strategically applies analytical thinking and subject matter expertise of Real Estate and Capital Markets.
* Provide global counterparty oversight, strategic direction and facilitation across the Citi Real Estate organization, including Policy, Procedures and Standards, Organizational Structure and Governance, Capacity Planning, Staffing, Communication, and Training.
* Manage project plans by providing leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring implementation activities
* Create regular reporting and communication channels to update project progress, status and risks associated with counterparties or the portfolio to Senior Leadership and team, strategic business partners, and other relevant stakeholders globally.
* Negotiate and resolve issues as they arise and where they impact on other deliverables and time frame for completion.
* Contribute to the timely completion of portfolio reviews, product programs and portfolio stress tests for senior risk and business management.
* Interact with Audit and Risk Review personnel and with external regulators during their periodic reviews of the portfolio.
* Stay ahead of the market with an understanding of the effective asset pricing, competitive loan structuring and market supply/demand component.
* Apply knowledge about risk systems infrastructure including key processes, coverage and data flows in order to identify risk effectively.
* Identify and analyze complex situations that create risk and legal liability for Citi.
* Applies applicable US and local regulations, guidelines and practices.
* Builds Key Risk Indicators that are relevant to the areas covered; understands how they are collected; identifies deviations for acceptable levels/trends.
* Managing a team of Real Estate professionals. Responsible for hiring, compensation, performance appraisals, staff development, training, etc. This position requires a keen interest in both real estate and capital markets.
* Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required
* Masters degree preferred
* 15+ years previous risk experience required
* 5+ years previous managerial experience required
* Possess complex and diverse knowledge of financial services, knowledge of Citi is a plus. Excellent ability to communicate and influence in a cross functional environment. Experienced negotiator (internally and externally).
* Real estate knowledge or experience. Comprehensive understanding of applicable industry regulations and standards.
