Our team

You will be joining the Lead Platform Team in New York. This team is responsible for supporting marketing efforts to increase Northwestern Mutual product sales by connecting clients and potential clients (Leads) with Financial Representatives.

What were looking for:

Were seeking a strong Java Engineer to help deliver outstanding digital products and tools to our clients and Financial Representatives. In this role, you will be immersed in the vast breadth of modern tools and technologies to get the job done, such as AWS Cloud platform services and infrastructure, micro-services, and a robust CI/CD pipeline. The role requires an agile and innovating engineering mentality, experience with product development, software development life cycle, cross-functional team collaboration, strong engineering skills, and a positive attitude.

Our engineers work within an Agile methodology (Scrum) and are passionate about solving complex problems. We also believe in full ownership and expect teams to own all software components, from architecture and testing to production monitoring and performance optimizations.

Required Skills:

* BS in computer science, engineering or an equivalent field
* 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with Java
* In-depth knowledge of enterprise software architectural patterns: microservice, integration, and messaging patterns
* Experience writing stream applications with Kafka or similar messaging technology
* Proficient working with relational (Postgres) and NoSQL databases
* Experience with Spring Boot ecosystem, Rest service, and developing large scale applications
* Experience with automated testing: unit, integration, regression
* Proficient with GIT and CI/CD practices
* Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals
* Possess a clear communication style: explain technical solutions to both engineering and non-technical partners.
* Experience working closely with product managers, engineers, and business analysts to understand requirements and business processes
* Experience with Agile development methodologies.
* Strong problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills:

* Familiarity with basic web application security concepts
* Strong understanding of REST API principles
* Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS cloud services
* Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and standards
* Proficiency in multiple modern programming languages
* Experience with performance and monitoring tools
* Good at writing clean, modular, readable, and testable Java code
* Experience working in an Agile environment and adapt to the changing needs and requirements of the business.

This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
