Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Data Scientist to join our mission critical growth team supporting the Health and Human Services Business area (to include customers such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease, HRSA, ACF, etc). In this role, you will focus on analyzing large amounts of raw drug submission data and find patterns to be able to build data products that extract valuable business insights. You will work with others to evaluate customer requirements, researching, creating prototypes and making recommendations of suitable analytics tools and products that could meet these needs.

The first initiative you will undertake is for our FDA customer. The mission for FDA is to assure that safe and effective drugs are available to the US. To accomplish its mission, FDA must contend with many important challenges around methods to evaluate safety and effectiveness, conduction of multi-centered clinical trials, significant increases in production facilities in distant and less developed countries, etc. To address the challenges, FDA has made a concerted effort to deliver state-of-the-art strategic capabilities in order to facilitate the analysis, management, performance tracking, and execution of FDA's regulatory commitments, while continuing to protect public health.

FDA is looking to harness the latest in scientific methods, theories, and practices especially as it relates to artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML); big data platforms and cloud advanced analytics.

GDIT is building a vibrant team in support of FDA, to understand and address their mission challenges to the best of our abilities. We are looking for a self-motivated leader to join our FDA portfolio and be a leader in the data science space. We're seeking a strong team player to work in an agile-scrum driven environment alongside a large team, which includes very engaged and motivated customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Evaluate various data analytics products and tools, creating prototypes to determine appropriate solutions to solve customer problems
* Work with various stakeholders (customers, technical staff, and others) to evaluate system and business requirements
* Undertake processing of structured and unstructured data
* Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
* Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
* Present information using data visualization techniques
* Collaborate with product development teams
* Provide expert guidance and leadership to less-experienced colleagues
* Assess the system and business process architectures currently in place and works with staff to recommend improvements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience:
* BA/BS (or equivalent experience) and 8+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Proven experience as a Data Scientist and/or Data Analyst
* Experience in data mining
* Knowledge of AI and machine learning techniques and extraction of structured and unstructured data
* Experience programming in SQL; additional experience programming in other languages such as Python or R
* Familiarity with Data Analytics tools such as SAS, IBM SPSS, any open source like R, or any cloud-based tools like AWS SageMaker
* Experience using business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop)
