Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) focuses on delivering Facebook's vision through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of Virtual and Augmented Reality require custom silicon. Facebook Silicon team is driving the state of the art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, sensors, and new ways to map the human body. Our chips will enable AR and VR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware and algorithms. This is an opportunity to work with a world-class group of researchers and engineers within the AR Silicon. You will use your microprocessor/DSP knowledge and experiences to explore instruction set architectures for energy optimization. We are a small team of engineers developing DSP hardware and software focusing computer vision pipeline for Augmented Reality applications.
DSP Instruction Set Architecture Engineer Intern Responsibilities
* Assist with exploring and analyzing one or a few processor/DSP ISA and uArc for a few core kernel codes for efficiency evaluation
* Select one or a few processor/DSP ISA and port core kernel codes to the instruction sets
* Compare the instruction set from energy efficiency perspectives and identify the gap of instruction sets for energy optimization
Minimum Qualifications
* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
* Knowledge of computer architecture (e.g. performance modeling, memory hierarchy, etc)
* Knowledge of microprocessor design/DSP pipeline and memories (e.g. branch prediction, cache, floating-point hardware)
* Programming experience (C/C++) and profiling
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with some processor instruction set such as RISC-V and ARM
* Experience with energy estimation (pJ/byte or uW/Mhz) of processor
* Knowledge of compiler (e.g. LLVM)
* Experience with some processor instruction set such as RISC-V and ARM
