BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for dynamic, results driven individual to join as a Prototype Technician for 4 to 5 months at our Noblesville Technical Center (NTC) located in Noblesville, Indiana.
In this role, and under direct supervision of the Prototype Build Supervisor the Prototype Technician will be primarily responsible for supporting the build and evaluation of prototype rotating electrical machines and inverters. The Prototype Technician will support Engineering in the manufacture, assembly, and test of prototype samples.
Key Accountabilities:
* Supports the build requests for prototype rotating electric machines and inverters involving a high amount of complexity and ensures appropriate measures are taken to provide a quality product delivered on time.
* Conducts experiments, records data, and formally reports the results to internal customers and engineers, with a high degree of quality and professionalism.
* Provides input, guidance, and solutions to internal customers and supervisor in order to resolve moderately complex issues/constraints appearing before or during assigned tasks.
* Works cross functionally with other groups to overcome issues/constraints and complete difficult tasks.
* Actively communicates findings, issues, constraints, delays, & progress to internal customers and supervisor. Analyzes potential solutions to mitigate problems, issues, and delays.
* Moves progress forward on multiple projects simultaneously without direct supervisor involvement.
* Participates in giving and receiving training at a moderate level; learning on the job in real time.
* Willing to develop skills and grow within a dynamic test and low volume manufacturing environment.
* Maintains equipment and work area in compliance with local 5S protocol, keeping all areas looking professional and audit ready.
* Provides moderate technical support for all related duties in ITC as required. Flexible and open minded to all business needs.
* Follows safety practices, conducts activities with high degree of discipline and safety, operates machinery safely. Communicates unsafe situations/behavior to supervisor and actively participates in safety audits.
Qualifications & Experience:
* High School Diploma or GED required
* Associates Degree in Engineering preferred
* 3 years minimum experience in an engineering, lab, test, prototype, or build position required
* Automotive/commercial driveline components, specifically electric rotating machines is preferred
* Prior experience in vehicle driveline torque transfer component testing, including electric machines, electrical and electronic systems is preferred
* A working knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation including both mechanical and electrical schematics is preferred
* Troubleshooting/problem solving skills are required
* Learning on the Fly - Demonstrated ability to learn tasks and processes in an efficient timeframe
* Knowledge and experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint is preferred
* Ability to cross train and work in multiple departments is required
* Able to lift 35lbs, stand on feet for 8 hours per day, and work OT as directed by management
* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
* Ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed
