Western Digital Research Center is a premier research center with more than 120 researchers working across many technical fields including systems and software architecture, next generation platform technologies for persistent memories, machine learning and cache coherent acceleration architecture, nanotechnology and emerging non-volatile memory design.

We have multiple design and architecture track job openings for interns in the Next Generation Platform Technologies. Our focus is exploration of embedded and datacenter compute, memory and storage architecture, and hardware prototyping and implementations. Our focus areas are:

* RISC-V embedded and high-performance compute cores and toolchains
* Neural networking inferencing accelerators on FPGA and ASIC
* Opentitan root of trust security architecture and implementation
* OmniXtend architecture and implementation of switches and endpoints
* Cache coherence architecture and cache coherence controllers
* Low latency memory controllers for emerging NVMs
* Machine learning architecture
* Computational storage
* Neuromorphic compute architecture and ASIC implementations

Ideal candidate would work alongside WDC Research scientists on conceiving, prototyping and guiding development of new projects and ideas, as well as writing invention disclosures and academic publications. We are also open to individually proposed intern research programs in these and related areas.

QUALICATIONS:

* Current student, pursuing a PhD or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field with an interest or existing implementation experience in the above areas and graduating between December 2021 and June 2022
* Minimum of 3.0 GPA cumulative

What is the RAMP Program? The RAMP Program is supplemental to your day-to-day responsibilities. In this program, you will take a deeper dive into professional life at Western Digital by getting exposure to different parts of the organization. Some RAMP Program elements include:
