Position Summary:
The Sr Structural Packaging Designer leads early packaging design ideation and prototyping for strategic packaging projects. Reporting to the Packaging Manager, you bring product/package concepts to life through partnership with teams, developing and refining physical and virtual prototypes. You will lead internal innovation sessions, and lead brand new Chicago packaging design lab (SHOP) operations, including prototype prioritization and scheduling. You will investigate and recommend capability expansions and upgrades, process improvements, and ways to broaden the reach of the SHOP.
Position Responsibilities:
* Lead early packaging design ideation on strategic growth projects. Ideates, prototypes, and brings to life packaging strategy to present out to team members.
* Engage teams on early packaging research, takes insights to action into design solutions.
* Translate in-house requests into creative packaging prototypes, including new packaging formats, graphics or branding.
* Create 3D models of packaging to be used in virtual store environments, e-commerce, and presentations.
* Lead SHOP operations, including upkeep and maintenance, prioritization and scheduling of prototyping. Be the SHOP contact point.
* Evaluate SHOP capability expansions, pitch to Packaging RQI leadership.
* Maintain close partnership with our Brand Design partners.
* Lead internal innovation sessions with creative thinking and rapid sketching/prototyping output.
* Remain current on industry standards, trends and remain up to date on design skills and software.
* Maintain close partnership with Omaha-based MINE design team.
* Bring design perspective and inspiration to Packaging RQI team.
Position Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in structural design, industrial design, or another related field.
* 5+ years of structural design experience. Agency or packaging design experience preferred.
* Create original designs maintaining a high design standard and take constructive criticism and implement creative direction.
* Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products including Photoshop and Illustrator. Knowledge of 3D visualization software (Esko, Maya, Key shot) highly desirable.
* Knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD (AutoCAD, ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks)
* Ability to travel up to 15% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible Conagra representative.
