Position Summary

Responsible for all accounting aspects of assigned solar/wind operating projects and renewable construction projects within Duke Energys Commercial Renewables (non-regulated) portfolio including, supporting the monthly accounting close, interacting with internal and external parties, preparing various project deliverables, and completing quarterly compliance reporting. Need to be familiar with a variety of accounting concepts, practices and procedures to assist with the administration of the assigned renewable projects. This role will have a primary focus toward Tax Equity which require the use of the Hypothetical Liquation at Book Value (HLBV) Method of accounting. The ideal candidate will possess strong attributes for accuracy and will be highly detailed oriented. This role will report directly to the Director of Renewables Accounting as an individual contributor.

Employees at this level solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. Incumbents provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization, and may coordinate daily work activities or review the work of other teammates. Employee may also regularly lead projects. Employee works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbent has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise.

This role is responsible for accounting, financial analysis, and reporting support for the Controller's Department. The position requires interaction with various departments and individuals within the organization, strong technical knowledge and research capabilities to ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC. Responsibilities also include leading projects, setting priorities and special projects as assigned.
Perform complex analysis and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively present results for management review and decision making.

Responsibilities

* Responsible for Tax Equity Projects and accompanying HLBV Accounting

* Responsible for reviewing and updating tax equity models for purposes of HLBV accounting

* Partner with the renewables development team to evaluate proposed transactions

* Review development agreements/investments to understand and implement accounting treatment

* Prepare and/or review assigned operating company monthly general ledger closing

* Prepare and/or review various monthly and quarterly financial reporting schedules

* Prepare and/or review quarterly and annual audited financial statements for any assigned project with a third-party financing

* Lead the annual external audit for any assigned projects with an annual audit requirement

* Review third-party agreements to understand and implement accounting treatment

* Assist tax department with various data requests for assigned projects

* Interface with site operating personnel, corporate personnel, tax equity partners, external auditors, vendors and consultants as required

* Prepare ad hoc requests for internal and external parties

* Special projects as assigned

Required/Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline

* Six (6) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

* Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

* Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, etc.)

* Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Desired Qualifications

* Certified Public Accountant

* Master's degree in accounting, finance or other closely related discipline

* Experience with Tax Equity transactions, structured financed transactions, and HLBV Accounting

* Ability to work with complex financial models

* Strong technical skills and working knowledge of GAAP

* Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to manage multiple projects running concurrently

* Proven problem solving and analytical skills

* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and be flexible with assignment changes as needed

* Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills

* Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

* Public accounting experience (Big Four / large regional)

* Experience with company consolidation and limited liability company / partnership accounting

* Experience and confidence interacting with senior management, parent company management, external auditors and external parties

* Proficiency with PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan (fixed assets system), and Business Objects/WEBI query tools

* Demonstrated ability to lead the work of others, serve as a subject matter expert, recommending best practices based on expertise and institutional knowledge, communicating complex concepts to management, and representing management in their absence
