Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
Mechanical/ Process engineer responsible for determining, documenting and maintaining best practices for glass and metal machining processes (cutting, grinding, and finishing). Able to establish and maintain shop best practices including: equipment maintenance, tool setup, tooling maintenance, quality checks, and metrology. Able to interact with scientists, project engineers, and process technicians. Leading new equipment specification and selection. New process development/ optimization of processes for new and existing materials.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Working with process technicians, machinists and customers to determine the best methods for processing glass, ceramic or metal samples. Also troubleshooting process problems and assisting with machine capability and reliability. Determine proper sampling and inspection procedures and assist with process audits.
Travel Requirements (please note if international): Minimal occasional trade show or training
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typically 8-5; will need to support off shift operations
Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration) BS Mechanical Engineering with 5 plus years of industry experience.
Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)
1. BS/ Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of indistry experience.
2. Machine tool /MasterCam/ SolidWorks machine programming (min. 3 years experience)
3. Strong mechanical aptitude/ hands-on
4. Able to work with customers, process techs, other engineers
5. Familiar with process engineering tools KT (SA, PA, PPA, DA), DOE, Lean, MEE
6. Safety focus
7. Identify problems and able to effectively deliver solutions.
Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)
1. Glass machining experience
2. Electrical/ controls aptitude troubleshooting
3. Knowledge of metrology systems. Understanding measurement system capabilities vs. customer requirements.
4. PLC programming experience
