Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

* You will provide leadership in metrology engineering and precision measurement services as the technical lead for the Precision Metrology Lab.
* You will need to be an advocate for and support the utilization of precision metrology in new product and process development projects.
* Will keep current and evaluate new technologies as they apply to the current and future needs in precision metrology for Cornings Optical Connectivity Solutions business.
* Will assist or lead in the definition internal global standards in areas of measurement traceability, measurement uncertainty, GD&T for metrology, equipment operations, and technical training.
* You will serve as a metrology technical liaison with other business units and Cornings Research and Engineering divisions.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Interact directly with internal partners to establish timing requirements and expectations for measurement requests.
* Setup and execute measurements, perform post-processing of data, and deliver reports and analysis to internal customers.
* With a focus on continues improvement and through the use of operational efficiency metrics, manage the operations of the equipment in the Precision Metrology Lab.
* Serve as an advocate for safe operations within the Precision Metrology Lab
* Manage all preventative maintenance and interim performance verification activities of the equipment in the Precision Metrology Lab.
* Provide subject matter expertise for project teams requiring access to the Precision Metrology capability.
* As a global SME in Precision Metrology, advise and support the metrology operations within our global manufacturing facilities.

Preferred Skills:

* Knowledge of Hexaon Metrology PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, or other coordinate metrology software packages.
* Knowledge of Volume Graphics and/or Zeiss NEO insights software
* Basic knowledge of plastic part mold making methodologies for effective integration with the Mold Development teams strategy for rapid mold introduction and iteration.
* Working knowledge of precision dimensional, coordinate, Computed Tomography systems, and surface metrology equipment and their metrological performance characteristics.
* Knowledge of metrology fundamentals: metrological traceability, measurement uncertainty, calibration, metrological environmental effects, measured definition, etc.
* Awareness of national and international standards relating to dimensional metrology and measurement uncertainty (e.g ISO GPS and ASME B89).
* Desire to exceed internal customer expectations for quality and delivery.
* Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning.
* Knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009.
* Experience in computer-aided design using Pro-E, SolidWorks, etc.
* Knowledge of statistical analysis of data: standard deviation, mean, statistical agreement tests, data transformation, trend identification, regression analysis, curve fitting, etc.

Travel Requirements:

* Up to 15%, global travel.
* You have the ability to obtain a passport with no restrictions preventing entry to the United States, China, Taiwan, Mexico, European Union Nations, or Brazil.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

* This position will require a 40+ hours/week depending on project work and deadlines.

Preferred Education and Experience

* Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering with an emphasis in, through education or research, precision engineering and metrology.
* 3+ years' experience in industrial or research-based metrology is helpful but directly applicable advanced education and/or research may be substituted for work experience.
