We are looking for an analytical, results-oriented, self-motivated, and customer-focused Business Intelligence Engineer to build critical data pipelines and analytics tools that will help us transform the way we engage with readers and help them find their next book. The candidate will work hand in hand with scientists and product managers to gather insights on personalization performance and formulate data-driven hypothesis on future initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have excellent statistical and analytical abilities, outstanding business acumen and judgment, intense curiosity and strong technical skills. They are a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while paying careful attention to detail), and enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. To be successful in this role, you should have broad skills in database design, be comfortable dealing with large and complex data sets, have experience building self-service dashboards and using visualization tools, while always applying analytical rigor to solve business problems.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

Write high quality optimized SQL to retrieve and analyze data from relational databases (ex. Redshift, MySQL, S3)
Collaborate with other Business Intelligence teams to design and implement ETL data pipelines for extracting and analyzing billions of records from multiple databases.
Work closely with Data Engineers and business users to design clean and scalable data sources required for analytics and reporting.
Work closely with data scientists and product management to drive data-driven improvements to science artifacts
Create userfriendly, repeatable reporting solutions to minimize ad hoc customer requests
Define and develop business-critical metrics, reports, key performance indicators, and financials across all forecasting products that are consumable by a wide range of functions and levels.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of experience as an analyst or engineer in the data/BI space
Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
Experience with SQL
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or a related discipline
5+ years hands-on analytics work experience, with proven quantitative orientation.
Experience in leading complex large scale analytical solution implementation
Advanced skills in SQL, ETL, Data Warehouse solutions and databases
Experience building measures and metrics, and developing reporting solutions
Proven ability to structure complex analysis and perform the analysis to drive insights
Fluency with statistical analytics and programming languages such as R, Python, Ruby, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, or an equivalent quantitative field
7+ years of industry experience working as a BIE or related specialty
Experience using Cloud Storage and Computing technologies such as AWS Redshift, S3, Hadoop, etc.
Understanding of data warehousing and data modeling
Experience communicating results and business impact of analytical deep dives to senior leadership
Experience working as a BIE in a technology company
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven work with science and engineering teams.
