Work Hours/Shift:

You Will Be Responsible For:

* Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospitals mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.
* Provides leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement.
* Defines performance objectives and metrics for the department and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others.
* Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same.
* Collaborates with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.

* Incorporates quality improvement and patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
* Demonstrate competency in laboratory procedures within the scope of practice. Provide all aspects of diagnostic laboratory procedures based on established standards. Perform testing in a timely manner and ensure department staff adhere to established turnaround time goals.
* Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures. Completes annual procedure manual review assignments in a timely manner. Maintains procedure manuals in areas of responsibility current.
* Oversees at least one College of American Pathology (CAP) accreditation checklist to ensure continuous inspection readiness. Maintains current knowledge of CAP, State of Florida, and Federal regulatory requirements for the clinical laboratory. Ensures staff compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
* Oversee proficiency testing program for area of responsibility to ensure timely submission and monitor performance to include action plans for failed events.
* Ensures preventative maintenance and quality control testing is performed as scheduled, to include appropriate documentation, data submission, and monthly review.
* Provides orientation and training of department staff in area of responsibility. Ensures departmental competency assessments are assigned and completed according to regulatory requirements. Documents results of competency testing assignments in employee file.
* Oversees lab assistants in evaluating performance of staff during orientation, at 90 days and during annual performance review. Initiates coaching/counseling of staff to improve performance. Trains and mentors in an effort to expand the department leadership workforce.
* Oversees staff schedule preparation and planning process to ensure adequate coverage and productivity levels.
* Ensures department supply levels are maintained in a manner to reduce waste and avoid expenses for rush orders. Develops ordering protocols and cost containment initiatives in an effort to ensure departmental budget control.
* Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organizations overall mission.
* Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific jobrelated hazards.
* Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
* Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
* Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department and hospitals ability to meet its goals and objectives.
* Participates in and assists in preparation for departmental staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned. Establishes and maintains communications within the department and with other departments.
* Demonstrates commitment to professional and personal growth. Encourages professional development of department personnel through in-service education and outside conferences. Encourages staff participation in Hospital and other departmental programs and activities. Encourages inter-laboratory participation. Resolves staff conflicts.
* Maintains membership in the appropriate professional organizations. Attends seminars, workshops, and conferences, taking into account budgetary constraints to remain uptodate with the latest skills, procedures, and techniques to ensure continuous growth. Keeps professional licensure current at all times.

Qualifications
What You Will Need:

* Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
* Minimum of 5 years experience as a Medical Technologist with increasing roles of responsibility.
* State of Florida- Laboratory Supervisor license required.
* American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Board of Certification or equivalent preferred.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technical Supervisor performs laboratory testing in accordance with the Division of Clinical Laboratory Standards and pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 64B3-13.003. Ensures compliance of all regulatory requirements and quality measures. Oversees the day-to-day operations of various lab sections and assists the department director with leadership duties as assigned. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
