Summary:

Work closely with the CPO and the Privacy Team to maintain a privacy program designed to unlock the value of data while fostering consumer trust and ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance. Provide thought leadership on a team of Privacy Professionals, collaborate with business leaders and peers throughout the enterprise as you help teams understand the why and how behind the Privacy Program.

Primary duties & responsibilities:

* Partners with Chief Privacy Officer to oversee all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organizations privacy policies and procedures and compliance with federal and state laws.
* Identifies and mitigate privacy risks and makes decisions that promote transparency and choice. Works with business to translate legal and policy requirements to the business to position privacy as a competitive advantage that drives business growth and customer loyalty.
* Performs as a subject matter expert, keeping current on industry activities and emerging trends.
* Partners with the Legal Division, IT Risk and Compliance, Data Governance and Government Relations and many other partners to embed privacy requirements and controls into projects, products and services
* Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the entitys other compliance and operational assessment functions. Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all trading partner and business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
* Work to ensure the privacy program is embedded into every aspect of Northwestern Mutuals business, enabling the Company to navigate a dynamic future in privacy that allows for ethical uses of data in ways that foster consumer trust.
* Collaborate with the CPO and Privacy Team to ensure the development, implementation and oversight of adherence to the companys policies and procedures that ensure compliance with federal and state privacy laws and regulations, the Privacy Program, and the Companys Data Ethics Principles.
* Lead enterprise projects, programs or processes with significant business impact, develop tactical plans, and complete complex assignments.
* Collaborate with the CPO, leaders, and stakeholders to develop strategic plans for the collection, use, sharing and disposal of information in a manner that maximizes its value while complying with applicable data protection and privacy laws and regulations.
* Collaborate with Data Engineering to help shape a roadmap that accelerates leveraging data to drive NMs business objectives while maintaining compliance with privacy laws and regulations and meeting consumer expectations.
* Provide advice and guidance on business initiatives, including new products and processes, to help ensure they comply with applicable data protection and privacy laws and regulations and company expectations around collection, use, disclosure and disposal of information.
* Help develop and monitor the performance of the NM Privacy Framework (including policies, standards, procedures, training and governance), which is applicable to all Northwestern Mutual regulated subsidiaries, and provide advice and guidance on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to ensure continued improvement in its effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
* Collaborate with other data leaders (CPO, etc) on the success of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute, a partnership with Marquette and the University of Wisconsin to promote Data Science education and sponsored research at NM.
* In collaboration with the CPO, lead strategic planning, roadmap development, and operational planning.

Knowledge, skills, & abilities:

* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a privacy-related practice or field.
* JD required and CIPP/US preferred.
* Experience in the financial services industry preferred Experience integrating risk management and governance solutions into technology systems or platforms.
* Existing perspective and approach to building strong, collaborative relationships with people who have diverse perspectives, roles and responsibilities.
* Ability to navigate the levels of audiences and articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Exhibits superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
* Very comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys creating structure out of chaos, and enjoys learning and adapting to new areas and skills.
* Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, consistent follow-through.
* Excellent communication, analytical, organization, advocacy and negotiation skills.
