This position is for an entry level DSN Tier II Analyst within the Marine Service Engineering Group located in our Lafayette, IN facility. Primary responsibilities include: supporting Cat 3500, C175, and C280 marine diesel engines. The Marine Service Engineering group is accountable for the product health (performance, quality, reliability, durability, and serviceability) of the Cat C9.3 through C280 marine engines with responsibility ranging from immediate problem resolution on customer vessels to supporting long term CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) projects.
Marine Customer Service Engineers interface with all aspects of the engine design from the piece part to the system level (cooling systems, fuel systems, lubrication system, electrical, controls, etc.) and across all functions of Caterpillar including New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, CPI teams, Parts, Logistics, Service Publications, Sales & Marketing, Warranty, Quality, and Manufacturing. The Service Engineer provides technical support to worldwide Caterpillar Marine Product Support Representatives, Cat dealers, and customers directly to resolve field issues, all with a sense of urgency.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Providing on-time technical responses to dealers via the DSN Service Request process
* Recalling failed parts back to Caterpillar for analysis
* Analyzing data from dealer field tests
* Researching product failure history, and engaging the various engineering organizations to quickly resolve customer issues
* Must be flexible to cover urgent customer issues outside of core work hours as needed, including nights, weekends and holidays
* Supporting the senior product service engineers with early identification of emerging product problems through the review of early hour warranty claims
* Data mining of product defects in the Quality and Reliability database for trends
* Drafting and updating service publications
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
* Experience in engines, either gas or diesel in design, development, assembly, or service
* Experience in electronics and electrical control systems, preferably diesel engine controls
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel)
Top Candidates will also have:
* Good product knowledge of the Cat 3500, C175, or C280/3600 engines
* Excellent communication skills (including written, oral, electronic, and presentation skills)
* Excellent people skills for effective collaboration with various internal and external partners
* Self-starting individual with high motivation to produce a high-quality product
* Strong ability to apply engineering principles to quickly solve complex technical problems
* Results oriented person with flexibility to accommodate a fast paced and ever-changing environment
* Hands on experience with diesel engines or mechanical and electric system troubleshooting and repair
* Proficiency in data mining and analyzing data trends of large data sets
