HollyFrontier Corporation is seeking a Payroll Lead to be based in our headquarters in Dallas, TX. This position will be responsible for conducting advance and complex payroll assignments and projects for the department under minimal supervision. This role also provides training and guidance to others regarding payroll process and procedure.
This position is not eligible for International Relocation Program benefits.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
Ensures payroll is processed with speed and accuracy and verifies compliance with federal and state payroll requirements; stays current with changes in the law
Serves as a liaison to employees and with third party payroll vendor to ensure payroll processing accurately reflects Company specific pay policies including SOX also liaises with third party payroll vendor and agencies on all tax related rates or issues
Interprets pay policies, (e.g. vacation, LOA, disability, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, etc.) and ensures appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to the various accounts correctly includes but is not limited to W-4, direct deposit, employment and changes, earnings, and garnishments
Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by department, location, country, etc.
Coordinates system implementations (e.g. payroll, time and attendance), testing, interfaces, and upgrades and as needed administration of systems (e.g. password resets, adding or deleting data)
Assists with audits of internal records, workers compensation, tax filings, and related documentation
Provides final review of all Company timecards for completeness and accuracy
Coordinates with various departmental supervisors missing data and verifies information submitted on timecards
Creates, generates, and compiles internal management reports using payroll and time/attendance system reporting software as needed
Assists General Accounting in balancing a monthly payroll other deductions account
Reconciles quarterly and year end wages and taxes for 940, 941, W-2s and State returns
Assists Payroll Manager on all new software rollouts, acquisition additions, or any special projects
Documents and develops payroll processing procedures and trains payroll department staff
Provides vacation relief to other Payroll staff on journal entry file generation for Accounting
Balances payroll database annually Big Mama spreadsheet
Files and scans payroll related documents as needed
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of eight (8) years of payroll experience required. Must have a minimum of five years handling complex and advanced payroll assignments, calculations and projects.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in business administration, accounting, or related field or a High School Diploma, or equivalent, with related work experience (four years additional) in lieu of the four year degree or a combination of education and work experience are required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Certification credential in payroll (CPP) is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Ability to successfully complete advanced, complex payroll assignments and work independently. Advance skill level in Microsoft Excel which includes but is not limited to working knowledge and use of formulas, v-look up, pivot tables and other functions. Advance reading and writing skills, problem solving skills, organizational and time management skills, analytical, detail oriented, the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, and the ability to perform advance mathematical calculations. Awareness and working knowledge of tax rules and regulations regarding non-qualified retirement plans.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
SAP HCM system experience.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Office based with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. Some travel may be required.
