Job Description

You will be responsible for operations, maintenance and repair of Body Shop weld and dispense equipment. This work requires the ability to make decisions based on established procedures and is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS); focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).

This position is a 7th level lateral/promotional opportunity

Responsibilities:

* Create a highly engaged floor operations team
* Promotes, educates, communicates and follows up on safety initiatives
* Support of allocated Business Plan Deployment (BPD) and Quality Fast Response (5F) activities
* Define and maintain qualified weld inspection processes
* Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment
* Report as needed on status of systems at operating unit(s)
* Work closely with operating unit(s) on welding system to improve productivity, cost and quality
* Work with other engineers, skilled trades and managers to accomplish cross-functional projects
* Good understanding of laser welding, gas metal arc welding and resistance welding requirements
* Implement processes to ensure joining specifications and standards are met including process control and repair
* Ability to read and understand CAD drawings of mechanical systems, wiring/hosing diagrams, and product designs
* Provide technical direction to suppliers and GM plant teams
* Works closely with Body Shop Production Manager and Body Maintenance teams on continuous improvement activities and other production deliverables
* Conduct appropriate checks and tests, and communicate evaluation of results
* Recommend solutions to problems
* Responsible for preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunction
* Meet schedule and quality requirements
* Comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements
* Implement divisional and corporate policies and safety and good housekeeping practices
* Maintain frequent contact and collaboration in other areas outside of working group
* Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment
* Establish a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project. Has knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles
* Tooling and Equipment Troubleshooting

Required Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally

* Thorough understanding of body shop equipment & processes
* High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong verbal & written communication skills to support technology documentation and training requirements
* Ability to prioritize projects
* Knowledge of joining verification procedures and joining documentation
* Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in joining processes (weld controller, weld gun, servo, robot, riveting, projection welding, dispense, tip dressing, auto cap changer, laser)
* High level of practical problem solving

Preferred Qualifications:

* Knowledge in drawn arc welding systems
* Technical ability to train, develop and evaluate employees
* Knowledge of CAD Programs (AutoCAD, Siemens NX, etc.)
* Knowledge of weld data systems (WIDS, WGVDT, Gateway, TPW)
* Knowledge of GM Welding & Joining Standards
* Minimum of 3 years of related maintenance experience
