Profile

This individual will work actively with the GDIT TSS team to support our customer missions to discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data, and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even better services. Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction systems integrated with our services. The ideal data scientist applicant is someone who strives to make value out of data, by gathering information from various sources, analyzing it for better mission understanding, and builds data models/tools/automation that improves mission processes or provides critical insights/awareness.

Responsibilities

Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques

*
Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.

*
Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis

*
Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner

*
Supporting the assessment of data architecture principles and standards with regard to Application and Infrastructure architecture standards

*
Helping to assess the impacts, trade-offs, risks, costs, benefits and opportunities of solutions

*
Develop and validate systems architectural blueprint and design for quality, performance, security, user experience, maintenance, operations, redundancy, compliance, data flows, life cycling, dependencies and integration.

*
Perform systems data design work that may include logic design, data model formulation, development of data architecture analysis and design, and data systems engineering tasks.

Desired Skills

*
Knowledge of data architecture principles, methods, and techniques. Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.

*
Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, and regression

*
Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, or MatLab and proficiency in using query languages such as Python, SQL, Hive, Pig, or Tensor Flow

*
Experience with BI concepts (i.e metadata and master data management, data standardization, data pipeline, and integration of data silos) and data warehousing methodologies (i.e dimension models, data marts, and normalized repositories)

*
Must be able to work independently on complex tasks which require analysis and action.

*
Possess strong interpersonal skills, relationship management and negotiation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident

Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university with at least 1 semester of studies remaining after August 2021.

HS/GED, 1+ year experience as an undergraduate students pursuing a bachelors in Computer Science and concentration in Data Science/Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence or related

The likely salary range for this position is $33,280 - $49,920, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
