We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a technology team within Alexa search. Alexa search is part of our ongoing Alexa Information efforts focused on reinventing information extraction and retrieval for a voice-forward, multi-modal future.
As a Manager of Software Development, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of innovative systems that can collect and process data at web scale within a smart and passionate multi-disciplinary team. As successful candidate, you will have an established a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with a team of Applied Scientists with expertise in specialized areas such as Natural Language Processing, Text Mining, Search, and Machine Learning.

What you will do?
Be very hands-on: work closely with engineers to design and build scalable technical solutions, manage the day-to-day development activities, participate in design review, code review, and implementation
Equip the team with the necessary resources to execute on aggressive timelines
Manage staffing, program resources, and professional development
Help define the product roadmap and priorities, report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior management
Work across multiple teams to remove obstacles and external dependencies

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

7+ years of experience working directly with engineering teams
Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
5+ years leading engineering teams (e.g. hiring, mentoring, managing performance, providing technical leadership and design guidance)
Experience with distributed cloud applications and NoSQL databases
Experience building scalable, distributed data processing pipelines
Experience working in a UNIX environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science or related field
10+ years of relevant software development and engineering management experience
Experience related to Big data and Machine Learning (ML)
Experience with data processing , spark , kafka and scala.
Experience with content storage, indexing and retrieval at web-scale
Experience hiring and building technical teams
Intimate knowledge of distributed systems concepts and AWS
Ability to achieve stretch goals in fast-paced, innovation-focused environment
