About the job
Texas Instruments (TI) is out front and ready for the next big challenge. Our innovations are at the core of nearly every electronics product in use today. And it doesn’t stop there. We’re developing breakthrough technology to power the world’s future innovations as well. TI is committed to building a better future — from the responsible manufacturing of our semiconductors, to caring for our employees, to giving back inside our communities. Put your talent to work with us.
As an Applications Engineer you will be part of the applications team that supports TI’s industrial and automotive Ethernet physical layer transceiver products (PHYs). Ethernet has assumed a leading role in enhancing in-vehicle connectivity within infotainment, driver assist, and telematics, and is critical to the inclusion of 5 th -generation (5G) wireless capability as well as autonomous driving. Ethernet is also enabling next generation smart factories and buildings by connecting sensor networks with distributed processing nodes. TI is committed to a leadership role in these segments and has experienced accelerating growth. In this position you will work closely with product, test, design and marketing engineers to contribute to new products; engage in product validation and testing; prepare customer collateral such as data sheets, evaluation boards, application notes, and training materials.
Key responsibilities include:
Answering customer questions and supporting design-in activities for released products. This includes:
E2E forum and email questions from customers
Schematic and layout review of customer boards
Debug of customer problems by re-creating issues on our evaluation boards and/or customer boards
On-site support for customer board as required
Creating application notes and similar material that provides design guidance on topics such as signal integrity, EMI/EMC practices, component selection and device configuration.
Designing EMC compliant evaluation modules (EVMs) and internal evaluation boards to support evaluation activities of new products in accordance with EMC ( Industrial, Automotive) requirements.
Running various Compliance testing needed for Ethernet PHYs IEEE Compliance, InterOperability Compliance at inhouse and external lab
Defining customer-oriented software tools and working with ecosystem partners to create system solutions
Creation of EVM user guides, test procedures and proper release of EVM boards for customer consumption
Participating in datasheet reviews to ensure completeness and usability from the customer perspective
Conducting applications evaluation of new Ethernet PHYs in the lab, which may include creation of test automation, hardware design and innovative test methodology
Working with marketing engineers to provide support of early customer design-in activities for new products
Creating custom system designs targeting relevant applications to be used as customer reference designs.
Conducting competitive analysis, both in the lab and on paper, to help customers and field staff understand the value of TI’s Ethernet PHYs.
Writing application notes and tech notes that explain different use cases, implementation and/or flexibility of our products.
Creating training materials that will be featured on TI’s online training platform, Precision Labs, for both field staff and customers.

B.S in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or Mathematics
Experience in applications support of high speed analog and mixed signal products
Solid high speed hardware design and debug, and software debugging skills
Demonstrated competence in the use of schematic capture and layout tools such as Altium.
Strong technical background, with the ability to produce high quality technical documentation
System level knowledge in one or more of the following applications or products: Ethernet networks, industrial automation, motor drives, automotive infotainment, telematics, and driver assist.
Competence in a high level language such as C/C or Python.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Ethernet PHYs up to 1000 Mbps and above

Texas Instruments Incorporated designs, manufactures, and sells semiconductors to electronics designers and manufacturers worldwide. It operates in two segments, Analog and Embedded Processing. The Analog segment offers power products to manage power requirements in various levels using battery management solutions, portable components, power supply controls, point-of-load products, switches and interfaces, integrated protection devices, high-voltage products, and mobile lighting and display products. This segment also provides signal chain products that sense, condition, and measure signals to allow information to be transferred or converted for further processing and control for use in amplifier, data converter, interface product, motor drive, clock, and sensing product end-markets; and integrated analog and standard products, which are primarily for sale into personal electronics, industrial, and automotive markets.
The Embedded Processing segment offers connected microcontrollers, such as microcontrollers, microcontrollers with integrated wireless capabilities, and stand-alone wireless connectivity solutions that are used in electronic equipment to sense, connect, log, and transfer data; digital signal processors for mathematical computations; and applications processors for specific computing activity. This segment offers products for use in various markets, principally industrial and automotive.
The company also provides DLP products, primarily for use in projectors to create high-definition images; calculators; and application-specific integrated circuits. Texas Instruments Incorporated markets and sells its semiconductor products through direct sales and distributors, as well as online. The company was founded in 1930 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.
