Job Description

The Physical Modeling team's mission is to address problems at the intersection of physical sciences and computer science. We work closely with a variety of research and engineering teams including those focused on datacenters, AR mapping and localization, and Health. Examples of projects the team could work on range from efficient cooling of datacenters to developing simultaneous localization and mapping algorithms. Facebook is seeking a Physicist Intern to join our Physical Modeling team. Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable working on projects involving physics as well as data analytics and modeling. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in physical systems as well as data science and/or machine learning.

Physicist Intern, Physical Modeling Responsibilities

* Work closely with engineering teams and research scientists to solve physical modeling problems

* Develop scalable algorithms in the domain of sensor fusion, computer vision or machine learning

* Identify and prototype algorithms and interpret the results of prototype experiments

* Apply expert coding skills to implement computation in partnership with other engineers and teams.

* Communicate progress to engineers, scientists, and non-technical partners

Minimum Qualifications

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

* Fundamental knowledge in physical systems, signal processing, numerical computational algorithms, data science and machine learning

* Strong problem solving skills.

* Experience in working with noisy data and error analysis

* Comfortable in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from noisy sources

* Software development skills in Python for research applications

* Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

* Must be currently enrolled in a full-time PhD program in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or interdisciplinary program including the above disciplines with specialization in Signal Processing and must be returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op

* Experience in SQL

* Experience in Computer Vision
