Job Description

FAIR's (Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research), mission is to advance the state of the art of AI through open research. FAIR researchers seek to advance the fundamental problems surrounding AI. Our research covers the full spectrum of topics related to AI, and to deriving knowledge from data: theory, algorithms, applications, software infrastructure and hardware infrastructure. We actively engage with the research community through publications, open source software, participation in technical conferences and workshops, and collaborations with academia to make significant progress. In this role, you will join the Core ML area, which is focused on developing advances to general methods applicable to multiple domains of AI. The focus of this role will be around research challenges, such as the Deepfakes Detection Challenge and Hateful Memes Challenge. The goal of this line of work is to make advances in our ability to propose new scientific challenges and use them to produce advances which are reproducible and applicable to real world problems. This work will be conducted in open source, in close collaboration with multiple research teams with Facebook AI.

Visiting Research Engineer, Core ML (University Grad) Responsibilities

* Develop infrastructure for operating scientific challenges: dataset management infrastructure, training pipelines, evaluation systems, integrations with leaderboard platforms, simulation environments, etc.

* Collaborate with FAIR research teams across multiple domains (vision, natural language processing, robotics, etc.) to develop novel capabilities for scientific challenges.

* Build web application functionality in collaboration with a wider open source community.

* Operate a web service, serving scientific research challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

* Experience with Python development.

* Experience developing web applications.

* Machine learning experience.

* Currently has, or in process of obtaining BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent field.

* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via an internship, contributions to open source, work experience, or coding competitions.

* Knowledge of key platforms in scientific research collaboration: EvalAI, Papers with Code, HuggingFace, etc.

* Publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, EMNLP, ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, or similar).
