Scope of Position:

In this role, you will lead packaging engineering group, providing guidance to other packaging engineers to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. You will oversee the development, design, validation, and project management of packaging initiatives across the Life Sciences business, including new packaging design, material conversions/down gauging, and quality improvements for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging solutions for disposable plastic ware for cell culture devices, bioprocess vessels, glass ware, pharma packaging and liquid handling products used for drug discovery, bioprocess and research. We look for you to drive a packaging sustainability initiative.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Lead packaging engineering group including competency advancement of staff and foster and culture that values engineering capability, technical depth, and deployment of scientific method.
* Providing technical expertise to packaging projects
* Functioning as liaison between the commercial and manufacturing functions with regards to developing packaging specifications, acceptance testing and validating new packaging materials, equipment and processes
* Preparing new packaging design documentation for new products
* Collaborating with packaging suppliers to ensure consistent materials quality and to verify supplier accountability for specifications
* Leading project resources to achieve required objectives
* Providing packaging expertise to wide variety of business functions through project team participation.
* Manage packaging project portfolio including cost reduction opportunities
* Develop and implement packaging sustainability strategy

Travel Requirements:

* Approximately 15%-20% travel is required (mainly domestic; some international).

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

* Standard business hours; Monday Friday.

Required Education:

* Bachelors degree in Engineering required.
* Strongly prefer education in Packaging Science.

Years/Area of Experience:

* Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a packaging engineer within the manufacturing industry.
* Minimum of 1+ years of experience supervising others and demonstrated experience leading teams.

Required Skills:

* Experience with multiple packaging manufacturing processes and functional groups.
* Progressive responsibilities in engineering leadership including experience in managing people, strategy, projects, and new packaging design.
* Track record of delivering results.
* Experience with DOE.
* ASTM and ISTA testing procedures and/or standards.
* TOPS Pro packaging design software or relative software.
* Experience interpreting drawings.
* Strong project management skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
* Formal problem-solving skills.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

* Strongly prefer experience within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
* Green belt certification.
* Knowledge able in 3D CAD, preferably Solidworks.
* Experience with flexible packaging; i.e. plastics.
* Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, or DMAIC principles.
* Experience in the stages of innovation, transferring technology and processes from development to production including product/process validation.
