Job Description

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has an opening for a Laboratory Director at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

The Laboratory Director ensures regulatory compliance and quality in the laboratory and is designated on Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIAs) for MD Anderson's main hospital campus within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Major responsibilities include oversight of operations, with particular emphasis on the technical (analytical, preanalytical, and post-analytical), regulatory, and interpretative activities. This role is directly responsible for operational clinical activities and the daily operation of a highly productive laboratory service, ranked among the top academic testing volumes in the nation. Specific activities include compliance with CMS/CLIA, FDA, OSHA, AABB, CAP, TJC, ASHI and other relevant federal/state/local statutes and regulations. The Laboratory Director must have adequate clinical skills to be able to interact and collaborate closely with the Patient Safety and Quality Officer to assess and manage the clinical patient quality needs. This administrative role will ensure that the laboratory develops and uses a quality system approach to laboratory testing that provides accurate and reliable patient test results. The Laboratory Director designs quality systems to ensure quality testing and continually monitors each testing process (e.g, QC, PT), taking corrective action, and evaluating the corrective actions taken to prevent recurrence.

Qualifications:

* Rank of Associate Professor or Professor (Commiserate with Experience) in Laboratory Medicine
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in the practice of laboratory medicine/clinical pathology, including previous administrative responsibilities
* M.D. or M.D./PhD. degree and board certification in Clinical Pathology
* Training or experience in laboratory/healthcare management, quality, or regulatory compliance is preferred
* Demonstrate exceptional clinical skills to interact and collaborate to manage clinical quality needs
* Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure

Preferred:

* Experience in an academic healthcare system
