Summary:
The American Red Cross seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineer to be responsible for design, development, support, maintenance, and enhancement of technology solutions including .NET and C applications, Java applications, Oracle Server databases, BizTalk, Web Services, and vendor-provided solutions. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the aforementioned areas and have experience developing support procedures and documentation. Candidate must have strong collaboration skills and be able to work effectively with both local and remote resources.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
* Responsible for planning, processing and performing all jobs in an efficient manner with little or no assistance from the supervisor
* Working closely with upper management.
* Design and develop technology solutions making specific determinations about system performance.
* Refactor Proof of Concepts to Production-ready solutions.
* Oversee technical teams in delivery of defect-free code.
* Establish and publish coding standards and development best practice guides.
* Responding promptly and professionally to bug reports.
* Review and repair legacy code.
* Responsible for developing new software and unit testing to develop necessary changes to assure quality solutions.
* Develop and debug solutions for assigned projects.
* Unit test new applications to ensure that logic and syntax are correct, and that program results are accurate; assists junior programmers with programming assignments.
* Document code consistently throughout the development process.
* Strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff.
* Aid testers and support personnel as needed to determine system issues.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.
Required skills, experience, and/or areas of expertise:
* BA in Computer Science field or equivalent experience
* Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
* Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them.
* Solid understanding the principles of object oriented and client/server programming.
* Possess excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal and written communication.
* Ability to work in an AGILE, waterfall, or hybrid SDLC environment.
* Expert knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software systems.
* Expert knowledge of writing program documentation.
* Expert knowledge of standard development tools.
* Ability to determine whether a particular problem is caused by hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein in support of the American Red Cross.

Fundamental Principles of the Global Red Cross Network
Humanity
The Red Cross, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavors—in its international and national capacity—to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.
Impartiality
It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.
Neutrality
In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Red Cross may not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.
Independence
The Red Cross is independent. The national societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with Red Cross principles.
Voluntary Service
The Red Cross is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.
Unity
