The Brook Hospital KMI located at 8521 LaGrange Rd are seeking PRN Mental Health Associates to join our team:

The Mental Health Associate serves as an active member of the clinical staff; maintains a therapeutic relationship with all patients; assists in maintenance of a safe, clean, therapeutic environment; performs safety checks on patients and vital signs as ordered, assures patient participation in program activities; and performs technical/patient care duties relative to patient's health and safety.

Second shift offers a shift differential of 7.5% above base pay. Thrid shift offers a shift differential of 12% above base pay.

Qualifications

Essential Functions for the Mental Health Associate include the following:

* Knows location and condition of all patients at all times
* Ensure proper hand off of clinical information
* Obtains specimens of urine when assigned and prepares them properly for transport to the lab
* Assists patients with personal hygiene as needed
* Uses proper body mechanics when moving, transporting and/or lifting patients
* Follows all guidelines when performing seclusion of patients
* Follows all guidelines when performing restraint of patients
* Knows and follows all procedures related to seclusion/restraint
* Performs safety checks daily and as needed per guidelines
* Manage group of patients in outside activities; i.e., A.T., outings, walks, meals, and study
* Drives patient to outside appointments, with appropriate driver training
* Assists in management of behavior and control of destructive behavior per facility guidelines
* Recognizes signs of impaired social interaction and motivates patients toward desired cooperation
* Teaches alternatives to destructive behavior
* Reinforces treatment plans and attends Treatment Team meetings as requested
* Ensures patient takes care of their physical surroundings
* Has basic knowledge of chemical dependency and treatment options
* Has basic knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and treatment options
* Assists packing and collection of all personal items at admission/discharge
* Ensures skin assessment completed and contraband handled appropriately
* Charts objectively in BIRP format maintaining the integrity and continuity of nursing care plans and treatment team plans
* Ensures patient receives handbook and unit rules upon admission
* Demonstrates understanding of physical, emotional, cultural, religious and psychosocial needs of patients across the life span
* Identifies, implements and documents patient/family teaching
* Assist in providing a safe, therapeutic environment
