A Day in the Life of an HR Analytics Intern

As an intern working within the Human Resources department, you’ll gain real life experience during your college academic career. You will develop skill related to HR Analytics. You’ll utilize data query tools in the development of dashboards for enterprise HR projects. Contribute meaningful analysis and results needed for Norfolk Southern.

Responsibilities 

Assist in data extraction, transformation, database development, and utilizing visualization tools within Microsoft PowerBI and similar. 
Create and maintain dashboards from integrating data sources. 
Design SharePoint sites leveraging Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.
Gain an understanding of database structures (SQL), query language and data governance. 
Exposed to HR methodology and concepts.
Manage time, prioritize work demands effectively, and meet deadlines.
Collaborate with various levels of management while being positive and professional. 

Education Required 

Pursuing Bachelors Degree or higher required. 

Active enrolled student during the months of May through August 2025 
Freshman (27 or fewer credits) 
Sophomore (28 to 59 credits) 
Junior (60 to 89 credits) 
Senior (90 or more credits) 
Graduate Student 

Degree Paths Preferred: Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field.

Skills Required 

Microsoft Office skills including MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word.
Advanced experience with MS Excel regarding navigation and formula use.
SQL experience 
MS 365 Office Suite 

Skills Preferred 

Exposure to output data in code in python or similar 
Programming for data analytics (eg Python, R) 
Experience creating dashboards and reports leveraging Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau or similar.
Comfortable in leveraging a wide variety of data sources in analysis efforts.
