Job Description

Takeda’s manufacturing site in Round Lake, Illinois, produces life-saving therapeutics for patients worldwide. The Communications Lead is responsible for the site’s internal and external communications, media relations, public relations, crisis communication, and change management communication. In addition, they manage the overall site strategic communication plan. Reporting directly to the Site Head of Human Resources and indirectly to the Site Head, they also partner closely with Global Manufacturing and Supply Communications as required. This role plays an essential in shaping this organization's internal communication strategies with our employees.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage internal communication initiatives, promoting diversity and equity, fostering a positive organizational culture, promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, employee engagement, safety, sustainability, and quality, and ensuring alignment with objectives.

Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy and roadmap for the site. 

Oversee external communication efforts, including media relations, press releases, and representing the manufacturing site to the public.

Act as a communication liaison with visitors (internal and external).

Collaborate with site cross-functional teams, including Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety, Quality, and Operations, to ensure cohesive messaging and alignment with organizational goals.

Create, edit, and produce various communication materials, such as site newsletters, emails, social media posts, slides, presentations, videos, and news articles submitted on behalf of the site.

Partner with above site corporate communication and/or corporate branding as needed.

Advise senior leaders of communication-related initiatives and developments throughout the organization.

Utilize communication technologies and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of communication initiatives.

Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with superb ability to translate ideas into clear, compelling messaging.

Excellent editing and proofreading skills and journalistic ability to source and write stories.

Ability to understand the strategic vision and influence change across multiple audiences and through channels.

Ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence without authority across all levels and functions.

Proficiency with communication tools, content management systems, and social media platforms.

Familiarity with video production.

Excellent command of written and oral English.

Good time management skills and a high degree of self-organization

Education and/or experience

Bachelor's degree in English, public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or related field and (7+) years of experience in a related field.

6+ years of dedicated experience in internal communications preferred.

Experience writing for a variety of different audiences.

Experience in working in a manufacturing organization is desired.

Pharma, med tech, or healthcare industry and agency experience desired.

Physical Demands

This position supports a manufacturing plant and requires an on-site presence.

In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work in an office setting that requires the use of personal protective equipment.
