Job Description

Coordinates and designs or assists in design of control related projects. Projects
involve specification, purchase and maintenance of various systems, computers,
networking and/or peripheral equipment, design of controls or approval of
contractor's design, coordination with instrumentation engineers on instrument
hardware and configuration required for control and commissioning of refinery
controls, and coordination with operators on control design and implementation.
Maintains existing supervisory controls to keep controls in operation and
configured or tuned optically for unit configuration or dynamic changes.
 Designs and maintains operator interface to computer supervisory controls.
Recommends changes to process control design to improve unit operation or as
required for advanced control projects.
Specifies and designs control systems to enhance or to solve unit problems,
including hardware and software.
 Develops plans for future control work and associated computer systems,
equipment and software based on economics and necessity.
 Stays up to date on technology in control and computer hardware/software to
effectively plan for future projects and upgrade of equipment.
Responsible for updating program changes in computer software to support
field instrument modifications/additives.
Designs control systems and process systems to ensure safe and effective
operation.
Manages projects to control budget and schedule as planned.
Specifies and installs computer equipment or selects vendors to provide the best
solution to a problem or project.
Monitors networks daily to ensure best performance. If problems arise,
determine cause and solution.
 Ensures computers are operating efficiently, are secure, and are maintained.

Competencies:

Knowledge of computer programming and computer systems operations
required.
Knowledge of DEC computer, VMS operating system, Setcon/Infoplus
software, Fortran essential, PLCs/SISs, HMIs, Microsoft Operating Systems,
and/or computer network architecture along with understanding of process unit
operations.
Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other
work-related documentation.
Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive
information, results, and communications.
Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to
individuals at all levels within the organization.
Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and
emergency timeframes.
Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage
department responsibilities.
 Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.
 Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion
of tasks within stated time requirements.
Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel).

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or higher level degree in Engineering required.
2 years of engineering experience in Process Control Systems and/or Control
Systems Engineering with one year of DCS control experience required.
Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
 Process engineering experience preferred.

Other Job Requirements:

Must be able to work in a collaborative, on-site work environment, which will
include participation in unscheduled discussions and troubleshooting on an as
needed basis.
Physical Demands: Work predominantly involves moving from one location to
another. Typically includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Might include ability to climb,
balance, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl at differing elevations.
