Job Description

 Assesses, measures, and controls workplace safety and health hazards.  Serves as a resource to Operations in identifying controls to perform work safely.  Provides understanding of Federal safety and health regulations.  Works with other Safety Engineers to develop and implement recognized Best Practices.

Supports successful site operations:  Develops and maintains good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills that facilitates continuous improvement in 1) health and safety risk management, 2) alignment with ever-changing regulatory environment, 3) alignment with company policy, and 4) implementation of industry-recognized best practices (OSHA/AIHA/ACGIH/CTEMS). 
Facilitates the writing or writes site safety and health standards and helps Operations and other functional groups translate requirements into written standards or procedures.  Standards may include: PPE, Respiratory Protection, Benzene, Hearing Conservation, Asbestos, Lead, H2S, radiation, etc.
Demonstrates an untiring effort to find new ways to comply with existing regulations and requirements that further reduces risks and supports the zero injuries / illnesses goal.
Develops and delivers training on safety and health topics specifically related to industrial hygiene programs.
Maintains records in a manner which easily and confidently demonstrates compliance with regulations, company policies, and VPP requirements. 

Assesses programs for compliance and continuous improvement opportunities.
Actively manages / supports site exposure assessment plan and IH management system.
Develops a business-oriented behavior for implementing regulatory requirements.
Evaluates new chemicals for potential safety and health impact or compliance.
Researches potential workplace hazards through literature reviews, safety analysis, and measurement.
Effectively communicates to the work force about workplace risks and proposes risk-reducing measures when applicable.

Willingness to support the Emergency Response Team during events which would require expert knowledge in chemical protection and reactions.
Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree or higher degree in Engineering or related field in Science required
1 year of safety experience preferred
