Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).
The Industrial Hygienist recognizes, eliminates, evaluates and controls occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community.
Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. An Industrial Hygienist will obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. A Industrial Hygienist or Senior Industrial Hygienist I will take necessary steps to stop work if continuing the activity is unsafe or will create unsafe conditions.
Conducts the monitoring of workplace environments by analyzing work operations, processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; designs basic to moderately complex exposure monitoring strategies
Measures the magnitude of exposure to workers from environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups
Educates employees on practices, precautions, and procedures
Audits programs and conditions at assigned facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed)
Assumes technical responsibility for implementation of an Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program within or across organizations/facilities.
Performs conventional and increasingly complex practices of IH by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors or stresses in the workplace.
Cooperates with other Industrial Hygienists performing related phases of the program.
Assists in the design, application, test and/or preparation of specifications for systems, materials, equipment, components, or the review of any of same
Applies technical knowledge toward the reduction of cost and process improvement
Prepares technical reports and procedures.
Demonstrates Total Quality attributes through development and submittal of Total Quality improvement suggestions as well as IDEA and PACE programs
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health, Occupational Health or related physical or biological science and related experience
OR
Bachelor's degree in a non-technical discipline and relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
Radiological Worker trained
Technical knowledge of IH regulations, standard concepts, practices, principles and techniques; working knowledge of pertinent IH practices and application
Degree from ABET accredited institution for industrial hygiene

Savannah River Remediation LLC, a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract.
