Qualcomm Government Technologies (QGOV) is a unique division within Qualcomm that partners with the U.S. Government to bring the latest in new and innovative commercial technologies to the government space. QGOV is seeking an experienced 5G cellular systems engineer to architect solutions incorporating commercial Qualcomm System on Chip (SoC) processors into U.S. Government applications. The ideal candidate has strong cellular (5G) knowledge from theory to hands on experience, including protocol knowledge in the air interface (from L1 PHY to L2/L3 upper layers) across both network and UE perspectives; a strong communication theory background is highly desirable along with embedded software experience in the modem space. A successful applicant must have excellent interpersonal, teamwork and organizational skills, as well as proven skills generating system design documentation and comfortable navigating through 3GPP standards and modem code in order to understand the tradeoffs in design vs implementation.
Skills and Experience:
Strong knowledge of cellular (5G NR) PHY/MAC/RLC/PDCP and upper layers along with a strong understanding of RF principles including MIMO techniques
Familiarity with 3GPP protocol standards (Rel 15 – Rel 18), 5G call flows
Strong in Communication Theory, algorithms as it pertains to 5G, signal processing
Experience in understanding how cellular modems work, and comfortable navigating and making changes to embedded C/C++ modem code across various modem subsystems and layers
Ability to effectively work with multi-functional engineering teams
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

QUALCOMM Incorporated designs, develops, manufactures, and markets digital communication products worldwide. It operates through three segments: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT); Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL); and Qualcomm Strategic Initiatives (QSI). The QCT segment develops and supplies integrated circuits and system software based on code division multiple access (CDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access, and other technologies for use in wireless voice and data communications, networking, application processing, multimedia, and global positioning system products.
The QTL segment grants licenses or provides rights to use portions of its intellectual property portfolio, which include various patent rights useful in the manufacture and sale of wireless products comprising products implementing CDMA2000, wideband CDMA, CDMA time division duplex, long term evolution, and/or fifth generation standards and their derivatives. The QSI segment invests in early-stage companies in various industries, including automotive, Internet of things, mobile, data center, and healthcare for supporting the design and introduction of new products and services for voice and data communications, and new industry segments.
The company also provides products and services for mobile health; products designed for the implementation of small cells; development, and other services and related products to the United States government agencies and their contractors; and software products, and content and push-to-talk enablement services to wireless operators. In addition, it licenses chipset technology, and products and services for use in data centers. QUALCOMM Incorporated was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in San Diego, California.
