As Director, Global Tax Planning at International Paper, you will: Gain a wide breadth of strategic experience: Participate in all aspects of US federal and international tax planning by leading strategic projects, teaming with other functions and implementing creative solutions to tax problems. Assist in the development of a highly-skilled team of talented tax professionals: Serve as a leader and assist in the development of the entire global tax team. As a technical expert, you will ensure the compliance and reporting teams understand your initiatives and have the information that they need to report accurately in statutory filings. You will work closely with various cross-functional and business groups, collaborating and creating tax-optimized value aligned with business objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for end-to-end leadership of global tax planning projects, including providing technical analysis, project and transaction implementation leadership and ensuring appropriate documentation for use in accounting, compliance and tax audit cycles
Identify US international income tax planning opportunities to improve tax efficiency and control US federal income tax risk
Provide leadership and represent tax in M&A activity as it pertains to US international tax
Support the VP of Tax and the Senior Director of Global Tax Planning in US federal income tax and international tax policy matters and support the related tax lobbying activities with our government relations team
Manage relationships with outside service providers (both accounting firms and law firms)
Serve as an international tax technical leader and assist in developing the entire department’s technical income tax skills
Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of corporate income tax experience in the areas of US corporate and international income tax planning and hands-on implementation of related tax strategies
Experience in a complex, global company preferred
Demonstrated ability to identify and communicate complicated tax issues in terms of impact to the business
CPA or JD required
Masters in Tax/LLM preferred
