Head of Media and Communications
BNY Mellon Wealth Management has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Media & Communications for an individual that is passionate about developing and connecting all messaging strategies to further our business strategy and positioning across its full set of audiences. This individual will be an accomplished leader who understands the wealth management market, believes in the importance of actively managing brand reputation and seeks to inspire employee engagement. A true team player, he/she will proactively partner with Corporate Communications colleagues and the Wealth Management Marketing leadership team to effectively leverage key thought leaders and content in the market, while amplifying our voice across social media channels. The role reports into the Head of Marketing and Communications and has day-to-day interactions with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wealth Management.
Responsibilities: Major duties include but are not limited to:
Executive Communications – Supporting our CEO as the voice of our organization, developing original communications that are authentic, nuanced for the markets and include a savvy blend of business strategy and EQ.
Media Relations and External Communications – Managing media relationships, identifying and qualifying potential speaking engagements, managing requests for interviews and pursuing an awards strategy that supports business objectives. Exceptionally helpful to already have contacts with key wealth management or financial services journalists.
Effective Agency Management – Managing agency and partner relationships, primarily in the U.S. but also internationally to prioritize key communication strategies, define success criteria and measure results.
Internal Communications – Ongoing development and execution of an effective internal communications program for a business undergoing transformation, while retaining the best elements of its culture.
Strong partnership with Corporate Communications – Tightly aligning with the Corporate Communications team for consistent messaging, leveraging cross-business opportunities and sharing best practices.
Complete alignment with Compliance –Effectively handle records management to ensure all processes are maintained in a timely and accurate manner.
The successful candidate will a proactive media leader who demonstrates/possesses:
12 – 15 years of external and internal communications experience preferably in Wealth Management or Investment Management, and a demonstrated track record of interfacing successfully with senior leaders.
Knowledge of messaging strategy development to successfully convey key themes and stay on message in the marketplace, across different stages of the financial lifecycle.
An understanding of the needs of UHNW investors, the responsibilities that come with being a fiduciary and the ability to take into consideration all the potential audiences for any external communications (e.g., UHNW investors, family offices, other BNY Mellon lines of business).
Adept at time-management for addressing the sensitivity of responding to media-driven deadlines and effectively utilizing senior executives’ time.
Expertise in managing media partners to prioritize communications efforts and efficiently determine which opportunities to pursue in meeting objectives. Agency experience is a plus.
Strong executive presence and leadership skills required.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as influencing and partnering skills are required. Deep expertise in leveraging earned media opportunities for social media strategies is also required.
Undergraduate degree in marketing or communications preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office product suite, internal client communications platforms such as Poppulo, AEM for newsroom promotion and leveraging earned media effectively on social media channels, in particular LinkedIn and Twitter.
