About the job

Alcoa Corporation is seeking a Senior Accountant - External Reporting and Consolidation to join the Corporate Finance team based at the Alcoa Corporate Center in Pittsburgh, PA. This is an exciting and challenging role at the center of Alcoa’s in-house expertise on technical accounting. This is part of a team of highly qualified CPAs and finance experts with extensive experience in financial accounting and business matters. This position will have considerable ongoing interaction with a wide group of partners across the company.

In this role, you will continue to build technical skills, and use and develop your project management abilities in a collaborative team environment. This position offers a variety of learning opportunities in both business and technical accounting matters. You will play a key role in the Company’s financial filings with the SEC, as well as working on the monthly consolidation of Alcoa's 130 legal entities located across 16 countries.

The role will work closely with the operations and regional finance teams to understand and create disclosures for our segment and consolidated results. You will be best positioned to succeed if you are a results-oriented, innovative thinker, with outstanding communication skills who demonstrates the highest level of integrity and trust.

The position reports to the Senior Manager – External Reporting and Consolidation.

Responsibilities:

Participate in all aspects of periodic, quarterly and annual SEC filings including detailed planning, cross-functional coordination, and preparation or review of assigned portions of the reports.
Prepare external financial statements, schedules, footnotes and management’s discussion and analysis.
Assist in the preparation of the quarterly earnings release package.
Collaborate with Investor Relations and Communications in preparing investor presentations and press releases.
Gain technical expertise by staying up to date on new accounting pronouncements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
Support Alcoa’s monthly close process: prepare and process consolidation journal entries; process HFM consolidation cycles per the standard schedule; perform month end reconciliations and checks; respond to operations finance team inquiries.
Build and maintain a good understanding of Alcoa’s external and internal reporting structure and related accounting principles.
Coordinate with Financial Accounting to ensure that discontinued operations, acquisitions, and divestitures are recorded appropriately, which includes both system configuration and journal entries.
Analyze monthly financial results and summarize findings for senior management.
Review and analyze cash flow results for proper classification and disclosure.
Assist in managing the relationship with external auditors and the activities related to quarterly reviews and annual audit.
Perform analyses and special projects as requested by the Company’s senior financial management team.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
CPA certification required
Minimum 3 years of experience in public accounting OR 3 years of experience in a US GAAP policy group of a publicly traded manufacturing company
Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting policies
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
High degree of intellectual curiosity
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organization and documentation skills
Enthusiastic about working in a team environment / good collaborator

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree
Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and/or Hyperion experience
Working knowledge of Oracle or equivalent ERP system
